Ever since I was young boy music served as a refuge, a safe haven where I could retreat to in order to escape the chaos of my surroundings, and the confusion inside my impressionable mind.  

In this world and human experience, we are impacted by our ancestors and the teachings and programs passed through our bloodlines.   Many of us are taught ways of being that are so far from who we really, and are often not nurtured in ways that foster an environment of peace.  

For me personally, it has become quite clear that the suppression of my being was a factor in leading me to feel quite insecure and inadequate.  At one point I turned to aggression, excess drug and alcohol abuse, and seeking external validation to attempt to cover up the deep feelings of shame for not being something I was not.    This is by no means fault to anyone because it is also clear to me that my family and those that mentored me along the way, had my best interest in mind.   

As I grew older, I became hardened by a rigid philosophy and lifestyle and believed some of the influences of American society to achieve the success of some kind of fame because just being who we are is not enough.   This perspective is so far out of balance to what the human experience is all about that it is contributing to creating more and more sickness and disease around the world.   This was certainly the case for me and in 2015 I was diagnosed with a life-threatening situation in my body. 

What I have come to understand though, is that our greatest challenges and darkest moments often create profound gifts because they are trying to help guide us back to our true essence.  

And so, with this violence that was festering in my body, I began to learn to slow down, to find peace, and to let go of the notion of what a successful person should be like.  And now I am learning how to tune into the gentle, yet strong being inside of me, and to understand that I am enough no matter what I do.  No matter what happened to us, and no matter how far we've drifted from who we really are, it's never too late to come back home and find peace. 

 I no longer create music to reach some level of so-called success, I create because music it is my medicine, and now more than ever I am finding that it is helping my body heal and step into the place I have been longing for since I was that scared little boy who was trying to make sense of the adult world around him.   

My hope is that perhaps the music that is coming through me can help others feel good, too.  Because at the end of the day we are here to help each other through this crazy and dynamic experience we call life.
