BSV: Hello Teo! You shared with us a very atmospheric 3 hours mixtape. Quite experimental sound... Do we have your approval on this diagnose?
TEO TRUNK: Hey, first of all thanks for having me, I really enjoyed recording this mixtape for you! I guess some parts sound as malfunctioning water heater. So if that fits in "experimental"... Jokes aside, lot of it is just from my daily background playlists for when I’m reading, designing etc. 

BSV: Some of these tracks are from early 2010’s. There is no doubt that you have a massive collection in your trunk. Right?
TEO TRUNK: Haha, to be honest, besides the newer stuff from last month or two I really don't know release dates of 90% of my music collection. Just a lot of random playlists on youtube, soundcloud, spotify and few old usb drives from when I used to play music. Never obsessed with playing the latest tune.

BSV: If we do etymology search (origin) of your last name, we find a very interesting information. Familiar with that?
TEO TRUNK: Long story is about relocation of Serbs from Dalmatia and Lika, and not wanting to change religion, so surnames of families were changed to be more colourful. Fun, short story, is about my great grandfather who was popular with the ladies of his village for his "trunk", so the last name stuck with the family for that trait.

BSV: You are an audio engineer with almost a decade of experience in sound and web design. Is it important for electronic music producer (composer) to have a formal educational background in terms of sound quality? 
TEO TRUNK: I studied Art History and Digital Multimedia, but I never got a degree, so I don't think I am the right person to talk about formal education. That "almost a decade of experience" line is a killer on LinkedIn, haha. But actually most of that time I was doing graphic design and experimenting with web and sound design in my spare time. Lots of trials and errors, learning in the process. It's only last few years that I got a chance to work as a sound designer for video games and as a mixing engineer on a TV station recently. Everything I know about audio l had luck to learn from my dear friend and mentor Vladan Jarić Pion. So I don't think formal education is necessary for anything these days, especially for such an elusive term as sound quality. Music is about the feeling. There is too much mediocre music whit "great sound quality".

BSV: As a pop music passionate, is it hard to offer your service to a native market?
TEO TRUNK: I wouldn't know where to start. I prefer making sounds for creatures in video games, I’m not sure I would be any good with real life ones.

BSV: Do you enjoy in your Artists & Repertoire activities?
TEO TRUNK: Lots of fun from that experience, but last time I did A&R work was back in 2017. I guess that is still somewhere on my facebook page.

BSV: Favourite artist at this moment?
TEO TRUNK: Caldera

Twenty years ago after attending many underground parties, I first got my hands on a friends turntables. I was hooked! Soon after I bought a Vestex PMC05 with Technic 1200 MKII’s and I spent hours tucked away learning to spin hard trance, never thinking I would continue to do so 20 years later. It has been my therapy and an artistic outlet. This creative outlet has lead me to explore for countless hours different genres and sounds, learning variations of mixing skills along the way. 

If I could give any advice to new commers it’ this; record whatever you play and listen to it. It will help you perfect your craft. Learn to beat match without autosync. It helps dial in your ear. Learn the timing and perfect the transition. It will bring your sets to life! Tell a story. Figure out where you want to start, where you want to end, where to place your peaks, and when to pull back. Get the blance right. Learning to use trim and EQ will create perfect blends. Lastly, have fun experimenting and don’t give up!

Libertad is a culmination of songs that balance 20 years of musical styles I‘ve played.  With Deep Progressive House/Trance starting at 130 BPM and slowly increases along the way ending with a breaks tribute paying homage to the 90’s big beats where I started.

From the Sunset Strip to the desert, Jess has been mixing underground music since 1999. The LA native and now San Diego based artist mixes a wide range of genres fusing old school with new school. Blurring genre boundaries, Jess likes to paint stories with music and take listeners on an emotional journey with ever changing sonic textures. Much of his music is on the darker end of the spectrum with ethnic textures, deep grooves, heavy percussion, progressive melodies and meaningful. 

Current Supported Genres: Afro House, Organic House, Downtempo, Playa Tech, Progressive, Tribal, Breaks, Trance, Electro Acid , Psy, Goa, and all flavors of Techno.

Jess' current projects includes Lotus Moon Gatherings (@lotusmoongatherings) and plays with We Are Muxic Collective (@wearemuxic) in SoCal and Mexico circuit.
