I used all 3 audio clips to create a drum rack for my Roli that I then ran thru the host of Roland DJ 808. I also recorded a loop, while spinning the tracks on 1,2,4 and the host of role was going thru 3A. I placed this loop back in the track. I used a MAX for Live device I built and ran 5 instances of the 3 videos.

I then applied serial and parallel compression. I also took a section near the end of the track and reversed it.

I then took the video and added it to the sound. Hope you enjoy.

Disquiet Junto Project 0370: Through Lines
The Assignment: Follow a single strand in the accumulated material resulting from a multi-part, multi-thread collaborative endeavor.

Step 1: This week’s Disquiet Junto project is the fourth in our ongoing trio sequence. (That might seem contradictory, a fourth in a trio.) The plan is for you to record a short piece of music using only material from the previous three projects. In case you are coming upon this effort for the first time, here is some background: the previous three projects enabled the collaborative creation of numerous musical trios, each containing work by three different musicians. In the first project (0367), musicians each recorded a solo line in the left channel. In the second project (0368), musicians selected a solo line from the first project and added another line in the right channel. In the third project (0369), just this past week, a third musician finished the trio. You can locate the three previous projects and there related links here:

Step 2: The next step is to find a “through line” amid the accumulated audio. It can help to work backward from a final trio (project 0369), and to then listen to the duo that led to it, and to see if another trio was created from that same duo — and to then go back further to the left channel’s solo rendering in the first project, and see if any alternate duos were created from it. In other words: locate a single original solo piece of music in however many subsequent pieces as possible.

Step 4: Listen to the various pieces of music that resulted from the search in step 2. There may be as few as three, but there may be more than that.

Step 5: Construct a single piece of music that follows that one “through line” amid its various contexts (solo, duo and possible alternate duos, trio and possible alternate trios). Do not add audio to the source audio tracks at all; filtering and processing is fine.

I used reaper to fade in and out different layers and to place a few reverb-ed and echoed piano & guitar here and there.

The track I started with was #11 in the previous playlist, so I've decided to dedicate this piece to the chemical element sodium with atomic number 11. 

Some information about Sodium (Na): 
Sodium is the sixth most abundant element in the Earth's crust.

Humphy Davy was the first person to isolate Sodium by electrolysis of Sodium Chloride in 1807.

Compounds of Sodium are used in soap manufacture, table salt and as a de-icing agent for animals and humans.

I took the original line (Northwoods drums) and doubled it to get more of a stereo image, and added some ping pong to the right side which was EQ'd brigher. I took the drone from the second line and added a gate sidechained to the drums. Lastly, I weaved Mark's bass in with some distortion and reverb which made it end up having more of a drone quality than the original drone, which became percussive. Was a fun project, many thanks and kudos to the original artists.

Unfortunately, my through-line didn't branch, but I still had a lot of fun playing with sounds by @sliversounds, @circlingcrows and  @untilledsound.

I modified the original tracks with Audacity, playing with effects, and then used Mixxx to create loops, control levels with a physical controller and add other effects on top. I also had a couple of sections chopped into my MPC to do fast repeats. I put everything together in Qtractor, and I'm pretty happy with how simple and progressive it is. Not sure if that's what Marc had in mind at all!

My 33 1/3 series book about the Aphex Twin album <i>Selected Ambient Works Volume II</i> was published in 2014. The book was one of the top 5 bestselling titles for the calendar year, and in 2015 was ranked by Pitchfork as one of the "33 best" of the 100-plus books in the 33 1/3 series. It has subsequently been translated into Japanese (2019) and Spanish (2018)
