Typical Brazilian music is defined by a few distinctive sounds.  Berimbau is one of those musical-culture-defining instruments, and we set out to capture this rarely sampled instrument with much finesse and dedication, offering it in two version; a higher sounding Berimbau and a lower tuned larger Berimbau. We completely multi-sampled all separate Berimbau elements with a custom string tuning option. This sample library sides among the unique ones in the Sonokinetic sampling library collection. Three microphone positions are available for customising your sound. The instrument is recorded in our renowned studio in Hilversum The Netherlands matching the acoustic fingerprint of our other sampled Brazilian percussion instruments.
The Berimbau is a single-string percussion instrument, a musical bow, from Brazil. Originally from Africa where it receives different names, the berimbau was eventually incorporated into the practice of the Afro-Brazilian martial art capoeira, the berimbau (the soul of capoeira) leads the capoeiristas movement in the roda—the faster the berimbau is playing the faster the capoeirista moves in the game.  With a beautifully crafted themed user interface designed by Ryo Ishido, we are very proud and pleased to present to you the next product in our traditional music/cultural heritage line, “Berimbau” - Brazilian Capoeira String instrument.

Last year we released our Ostinato Strings library. It was designed to solve one specific issue that virtual instruments have struggled with for years: how to create realistic ostinato motifs without sacrificing playability. The library took our phrase-based approach and extended the harmonic scope so that far more complex chords than simple major and minors could be played.
Ostinato Strings was met with great acclaim both for the sound and the flexibility of the chord system, so we couldn't resist following it up with a brass section using the Ostinato engine and with the same intuitive features. We returned to the great recording space we employed for other Sonokinetic orchestral libraries and gathered a selection of some of the greatest (and most precise) brass players to perform for us.
The entire approach is different from our regular phrase instruments in that we recorded separate intervals for various rhythm building blocks. After careful editing we combine these intervals through an intelligent script that builds them into chords in 5 different voicings and up to 4 inversions (the fourth only for 7th chords).
Not only does the engine build the chords based on the inversion you play in the chord area, but when you play in the harmonic shift area it will judge which inversion it plays based on the chord that came before it, the chord quality on the key you're in and the position of the chord you're triggering in that key. This ensures that transitions are smooth and harmonically correct. 
Ostinato Brass recognises and plays 12 different chord types, handling not only major and minor chords but also diminished, half-diminished, augmented chords and many more. For a full list check the user manual.
This library coexists alongside both our Orchestral Series and our Phrase-Based libraries, being recorded in the same hall, with identical mic positions and even utilising some of the same players. Our orchestral libraries blend seamlessly together.

We've always loved the sound of jazz-influenced film scores. The orchestral approach to jazz harmony has a romantic flair that is irresistible and has easily stood the test of time. We just can't get enough of sweeping string passages, the sound of a trumpet's harmon mute, a big band sax section, flugelhorn and trombones with french horns. For many years we've felt the urge to create a product encompassing this style of music and now we have:
Noir is our first foray into what hopefully will turn out to be a new line in the Sonokinetic range. As always we have added some twists to our existing engine, but in this case it was more of a rewrite. For those familiar with our other orchestral libraries, Noir is different! Because of the nature of the musical content we decided to deviate from our usual four high-mid-low presets and go more in the vein of the atonal Espressivo, with 12 preset keys that each hold a single performance. This makes it even easier to combine different presets and experiment with intertwining melodies and harmonies, which achieves a more horizontal composing process. A lot of thought when into how to translate this concept into a useable interface and we hope you like what we've come up with and encourage this new direction.
In Noir we put all three recorded orchestral sections in a single Section instrument, which makes combining different instrument groups super easy, and of course we have our trusted randomize button that will serve up twelve fresh phrases with every press.
There are two instruments in Noir, the solos come separately. Solos are a collection of improvisations on Tenor Saxophone, Trumpet (with harmon mute), Flugelhorn, Clarinet and Piano that are recorded in the same hall as the main instrument. The performances blend perfectly with the phrase material in the Sections instrument, or can stand perfectly well on their own with a gorgeous sound and intuitive no-fuss interfacing.
Producing Noir was a massive effort, and we consider it a new milestone. We hope you feel the same way!

Exquisite Intimacy; Many people assume that Sonokinetic’s signature sound is grand and statuesque, as we fill our recording space with many talented players and layer phrases together in our bespoke Kontakt engines. However, sometimes it’s great to dial things down for a more personal feel, and that’s just what we’ve done with Indie. The style of these intimate ensemble phrases take their lead from modern TV drama, boutique film and independent video games with a naked and personal sound.
Recording smaller versions of our string, woodwind and brass ensembles just wasn’t enough this time around, so we’ve also supplemented them with a huge selection of melodic percussion phrases. For the first time ever, string quartet phrases have been included, perfect for layering with the other ensembles to bring the focus back to your compositions. The overall emphasis here is on the lightest of touches, from delicate violin duos and solo clarinet to harp glissandi and gently played mallets. 
In fact, the melodic percussion deserves a special mention as we made sure to catch all the subtly and wonder of these instruments, including the seldom-sampled concert cimbalom, a dulcimer-like instrument with a unique sound. The dreamy melodic textures we composed for Indie were delicately played by our performers in the same space as the other ensembles. Marimba, xylophone, glockenspiel, vibraphone, crotales, upright piano, celesta and concert harp bring an intense personal feel to the whole collection.
We felt that the Indie recordings were well suited to the playback engine which we originally debuted with ‘Noir’, our jazz-drenched section library. That means that the 12 preset keys each hold a single performance. Mapping phrases like this makes it easy to combine melodies and harmonies and hear real-time performances intertwine with one another. 
The randomize feature also makes a welcome return, which conjures twelve complimentary phrases with every press. There’s also the option to randomize per orchestral section, either string quartet, string ensemble, woodwinds, brass quintet or melodic percussion
