Michael Jones is a trumpet player, singer, and arranger/composer currently living in Chicago, IL. Born into a musical family, Michael began playing cello at the age of 2, began singing soon after, and fell in love with the trumpet at age 10. Attending Peoria Central Performing Arts High School for voice and trumpet, Michael began studying privately with two faculty members from Bradley University, Todd Kelly and Shirley Salazar. After developing his talents and making a name for himself in the Peoria area, he was then accepted into University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music (CCM) in order to study Jazz Studies, under the tutelage of Kim Pensyl, Dr. Scott Belck, Phil Degreg, and Rick VanMatre. He also had the pleasure of studying classical voice with David Adams while in attendance at CCM. He spent some time performing, teaching, and studying in Brasilia, Brazil in 2011 and absorbed many aspects of the country's vibrant musical traditions. After graduating Summa Cum Laude, he was then accepted into the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University where he studied for his Master's in Jazz Studies under the tutelage of clarinetist and saxophonist Victor Goines, jazz trumpeter Brad Mason, and classical vocalist Keven Keys. Michael is an active member of the Chicago music scene, but performs frequently throughout the United States. Some of the numerous ensembles he often performs with include Alan Gresik and The Swing Shift Orchestra, The Crossing Choir, The Constellation Men's Ensemble, and J- Livi and the Party.
