This song is a raw, confrontational prayer from a specific and persevering community—geographically anchored in Crown Heights, Brooklyn ("Eastern Parkway," "Kingston Avenue to Albany"). It centers on the identity of the "Remnant": those who have survived historical trauma (the Middle Passage, pogroms, systemic oppression) and preserved their faith and lineage against all odds. The lyrics move from a pained question—"What You saving us for?"—to a bold declaration of tactical, prophesied return, citing Isaiah 10:20-22 as a blueprint.

The tone is less one of gentle waiting and more of urgent, intellectual mobilization ("mathematical in spiritual ecology," "decode prohibition"). It frames the urban landscape as both a battleground and a "staging ground" for a physical and spiritual reclamation, rejecting the idea of return as mere metaphor. The repeated chorus, "What about the Remnant," is a direct challenge to the divine, demanding purpose and "marching orders" for this preserved, awakened few. It’s a powerful statement of chosenness forged through survival, rooted in a very real streetscape where "this pavement holds the memory."

Shormey realized her passion for making music when she was 14 and would work on making beats in her room. She developed her talents and was ready to begin making solo music at age 21 and while she still makes music in her bedroom, her sound has evolved to something she’s ready for the world to hear.

It’s hard to exactly pinpoint Shormey’s sound, but it’s characterized by the disco-esque, feel-good vibes of the 70’s. She’s got an old soul and pulls a lot of musical inspiration from artists of that decade. She’s released songs online and has curated a mini EP that she hand personalized herself, titled God Bless Bob Ross: A Collection of Low Fidelity Recordings, which she hands out after her performances.

Shormey currently lives in Chesapeake, VA, but she’s done shows in Richmond at Gallery 5, Strange Matter, and various house parties. She’s looking forward to putting out more music in the near future.
