My influences have a lot of everything, I have an intense fixation for music from the 90s from house, r&b, freestyle and eurodance. 
A pop producer that inspires me a lot is Timbaland, I love his approach to creating rhythms. Some electronic producers that I look up to are Ariel Zetina, James Bangura, Omaar, Matias Aguayo, Escaflowne, Octo Octa, Eris Drew, Bored Lord, Skee Mask, JASSS Four Tet AND MANY MORE!

"Drifting through the endless void, I find solace in the quiet chaos of time and space folding in on itself. My spacecraft Paradox glitches constantly, sending me hurtling through centuries and galaxies at random, but I’m honestly into it. Each jump brings me to new moments in time, and each encounter with objects feels like a fleeting ripple in an infinite ocean. I've met sentient beings, sharing brief moments with them, then always leave, watching their timelines fade into the distance as Paradox carries me to another era. Timelessness has become my constant companion, offering me a peace that no anchored reality ever could. 

Right now, I’m reflecting on a stunning exoplanet I just briefly visited. Like on many places with existing life, the beings there seemed to be in synchronized movement to a rhythm coming from the planet’s core, being piped in from a network of presumably other nearby planets, communicating like the trees from that one planet that ate itself. To my surprise, I suddenly had a deep craving to be in sync with them, but their shared rhythm was floating in and out for me like it was occasionally being smothered by a soft pillow. And sometimes it would echo all around me, ringing out of sync with their communal timing - but I moved to it nonetheless. The other beings didn’t seem to mind that I was out of sync, and we all moved together, as I embodied this lonely echo in my temporary quest for connection. As I left a bit later, floating on toward wherever I was headed next, I tapped into my own familiar inner rhythm, untethered and on the loose."

PlayPlay combines their penchant for percussion and bass with nostalgic samples & dreamy synths in both their DJ sets & music production. Their sound is inspired by years of clubbing, crate digging and the sounds they grew up dancing to - 90s club anthems, jungle, breakbeat hardcore, minimal wave, classic house and old school hip-hop. With releases out on labels such as Sorry Records, Clasico and Worst Behavior, as well as a slew of self-releases and collaborations, PlayPlay has been slowly and steadily amassing a thumping discography over the years.

Based in NYC, PlayPlay currently hosts two parties: Breaking Capacity, dedicated to all things breaks, and Satisfaction of What’s to Come, celebrating the many iterations of house music. In their home state of NC, they co-host PARADOX, a party exploring the timelessness of early rave music.

o•rbyss aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

“The idea for the mix was born from a series of contiguous and isomorphic fever dreams. The mix takes the form of 3 different chapters and follows my trajectory that night within dream space: 3 times being lulled into sleep by arrhythmic ambience, 3 times being pulled into a colder, atonal space, and 3 times escaping discord towards tranquility. The mix drifts out of pure ambience into 3 sections at 3 different BPMs: the first of which explores half-timey 80 BPM grooves and liquid DnB; the second explores chugging 100 BPM and trip-hop grooves; the final part explores 120 BPM psy breaks and IDM.”

After growing up on the renegade scene of Montreal, como se DJ moved to Brooklyn and founded the DIY party series RECESS with the intention of bringing a psy-forward sound he felt was missing in New York City. Inspired by forest raves and experimental dance music, he dreamt up his party with the desire to conjure the feeling of dancing in open nature with your friends. como se DJ’s sets strikes a balance of body- and heart-activating psychedelia. At once mischievous and emotional, he pulls in sonic elements of bass, deep techno, prog and electro, flirting with genre and groove, while maintaining a lush, blissed-out undercurrent.

Our next mix, fittingly titled “Dreamy Forward Motion” comes from @imadfromlove (she/her), a music enthusiast raised in Berlin with Kashmiri + Canadian roots. With a musical background playing trumpet + trombone in her local school jazz band, she fell in love with the diverse sounds of New York City spanning all genres from 90s Hip Hop, to Soul, Funk, Jazz & Disco. Through this, she took herself down the music history rabbit hole while at the same time discovering various niches in her local Berlin nightlife scenes. Having found her footing in Berlin, she can now be found helping out in the scene every weekend either behind the decks, doodling, running tech, doing selection, awareness or any other nightlife position that calls to her. Musically, her collection ranges from ambient, downtempo + easy listening to 90s house, progressive, trance, hardcore, early techno + more.

“I made this mix after a very relaxing spa day with my partner. Inspired by a dreamy bubble bath, I selected a few progressive house, dreamy trance and breakbeat tracks to express the sensation. The first half contains a few of my favourite records at the moment (with a message for my partner in all of the lyrics) and in the second half, I give a shout out to a few DJ/Producer folks in my circles namely: 131bpm, Tuxe, Tom, Octo Octa, Spray and Bliss Inc. to show off some more contemporary sounds. The mix ends with some dreamy trax as I watch the leaves fall off the trees out of my Friedrichshain window in a very relaxed mindset. Thank you for having me <3” - Imad
