Stil vor Talent

‘Things I Do’, Edu Imbernon’s new EP on Stil vor Talent, once again demonstrates what makes the charming Spaniard so unique – there’s always an air of mysticism and romance running through his floor-ready tracks. Partly due to a strong understanding of atmospherics and effects, partly down to a knack for working with great vocal talents. Like on ‘Mystery Inside’, Sutja Gutierrez lends his voice to ‘Things I Do’, which bedazzles as it journeys through an arrangement of floating pads, spherical echoes and delayed synths. 

Next to the original version, Teenage Mutants delivers an excellent remix that focuses on Gutierrez’ vocals whilst building a low-slung house framework of driving high-hats, bittersweet melodies and a forceful bass line around it. Lastly, Los Suruba take you on a real trip as they reduce ‘Things I Do’ to a minimalist afterhours burner composed of eerie bleeps and acidic licks.

Known for a width of styles, from chart topping success to underground tech house, here second city delivers a track that shows a real maturity. A track that captivates, its epic, it grows and its fulfilling, and as Yousef puts it, "i can see Laurent Garnier playing this", as sealed as approvals can get..

This track was inspired by a lot of early house disco stuff, wanted to make something that sounded very sample based & had that real funk and soul element you really got with a lot of early house music. This record means a lot to me and helps maybe show a little bit of where my inspirations when writing music come from. 





Second City Biography

Rowan stormed onto the scene with the much-hyped four track EP ‘The Story’ on Huxley’s Saint’s And Sonnets imprint before following up with a sublime collab with Route94, editing the classic ‘Freak Like Me’. This sparked interest among a number of key players and he soon found the likes of Skream, Kenny Dope, MK and Nic Fancuilli all championing his sound. It wasn’t until his UK No.1 single ‘I Wanna Feel’ Rowan become of real notoriety, the track was inspired by the city he grew up in, Chicago, and has gone onto amass over 23 million plays on Spotify alone. 

After this, he went onto release ‘I Enter’ on Claude Von Stroke’s ‘DirtyBird’, which went onto hit top stop in the Beatport charts. With Nic Fanciulli’s continued support, it wasn’t long until Rowan was asked to produce an EP for Saved Records as well as remixes for Carl Cox, Dimitri Nakov & John Monkman. Since then he has been going from strength-to-strength, garnering support from a lot of his peers including Andrea Oliva, Stacey Pullen, Hot Since 82, Guti and many more. Last year saw an accolade of releases including a two-track EP ‘Coming Home’ for the esteemed ABODE Records label – reaching no.1 in the Beatport chart - One of his most successful releases of the past 12 months was ‘Funk’d’ with Balearic producer Manu Gonzalez, the track saw love from Annie Mac, Pete Tong & Danny Howard on BBC Radio 1 show and was heavily supported by Marco Carola who played it all summer during his notorious Music On residency at Amnesia. Not only busy in the studio, Rowan has been taking his sound all over the world with his eclectic, energetic sets. 

Playing some of the most exciting parties with a Sankeys residency across Tribal Sessions and Abode, which he will continue in 2017, and playing key shows at London’s Fabric, taking his ENd brand across North America and experimenting with a live performance at Pacha. This track is one of our first ever completed projects and is deeper than what we usually produce but it comes from an obsession we’ve had with ‘kamancheh’ which is a traditional Iranian bowed string instrument. So ‘Silent City’ is our interpretation around a beautiful piece written by Mr. Kalhor who is one the best musicians in Iran. <3

After a strong Truesoul debut last September, Oscar L returns with a triple dose of groove. 

We got our first taste of Oscar L’s talents when he dropped the excellent ‘Konfusion’ EP in late summer 2018, a triple threat of ‘90s inspired house, punchy peak-time tech funk and the Spaniard’s skillful drum work highlighted throughout. As the weather starts to turn in our favour, it’s time to welcome him back to the clan for round two with his ‘Multiplayer’ EP.

The work kicks things off with ‘Monster Tube’, a deep roller that sees chunky percussion rub shoulders with dizzying arpeggiated melody lines. The EP’s title track follows, a cheeky vocal sample bringing verge and energy to the groovy bed of drums that sit beneath. ‘Primewire’ rounds out the triumvirate of tracks, working superbly as a functional and energetic DJ tool.

SVT–Podcast093 – Jiggler

Reinier Zonneveld's Filth On Acid label comes ready with a first ever album only 18 months after launching. In that time it has released music from big names like Carl Cox, Gabriel Ananda, Bart Skils, Pig&Dan, Emmanuel Top, Coyu and many more, and this standout full length comes from Mees Salomé. It explores melodic and immersive techno, is entitled Big Thoughts Like Elephants and has 12 tracks that really journey into many different moods and grooves and the whole thing plays out with a real sense of musicianship that leaves an indelible mark.

Mees Salomé is a 22 year old producer from the Netherlands who is a self taught guitarist, piano player and drummer. He mixes real melody with solid groove and counts the likes of Reinier Zonneveld, Joris Voorn, Kolsch and many more as fans. This new album shows off a broad array of sounds and skills and is sure to make him an even more essential talent.

Things open with Natural, a tender and thoughtful deep house groove with great keys and chords that take you into outer space. Letting Go is even more out there and suspense you in beautifully ambient keys and chords as gentle, soft drums tumble below. From there the likes of Just Thoughts get a little more driven but have gorgeous vocals from Mees himself that are really emotive, and the rushing chords of Like A Flock Of Birds In The Sky that wash over you and fill you with joy.

Maybe has rubbery house drums but more expansive synths open up the track into the cosmos, Children of Men is darker and the latter half of the album shows a more club orientated sound with great grooves and heads down atmospheres. Unseen is another glorious track with celestial keys and synth lines and Sap shuts things down in epic fashion with dramatic drums and huge chords that leave you feeling cleaned and optimistic.
