Memphis Industries are delighted to announce the signing of Menace Beach; led by twin vocalists Ryan Needham and Liza Webster.

The Leeds based band boast a revolving cast of local luminaries in their line up, including MJ of Hookworms on lead guitar Nestor Matthews of Sky Larkin on drums, Robert Lee of Pulled Apart By Horses on guitar/ bass Matt Spalding on bass and, very occasionally, Paul Draper ex-Mansun legend on guitar and back up vocals.

Following two quick fire releases on French imprint Desire Records and the acclaimed Too Pure Singles Club, their debut release for Memphis Industries will be the five track Lowtalker EP on 13 January 2014 on 12” and download. 

Ryan says of the new EP :

“If, lyrically, the first load of songs we did were a document of losing it again, being ill, moving cities, and all that comes with that, then I guess the songs on Lowtalker are about the aftermath of that; getting better, making friends and trying to reconnect mentally and spiritually. I feel like there’s a lot of positivity on there”. 

Lowtalker was recorded, produced and mixed by Hookworms’ MJ at his Suburban Home studios in Leeds over four pizza, coffee and falafel fuelled days.


Menace Beach - Where I Come From

The forthcoming new single 'Mesmerise' by Temples, taken from the band's eagerly anticipated debut album 'Sun Structures'.  The record is released by Heavenly Recordings on 10th February 2014 and 11th February in the US by Fat Possum.

The 12-track album was self-produced by the band’s James Bagshaw and mixed by Claudius Mittendorfer. The album will be available on CD, download and double vinyl.

Oklahoma / Yorkshire collective Colourmusic have just shared a new track 'Horse Race' via ........ taken from their forthcoming new album 'May You Marry Rich' due 24 March in Europe, 8 April in North America on Memphis Industries.

Formed in Oklahoma in 2005 by Yorkshireman Nick Turner and Okie native Ryan Hendrix, some years after bonding over Aphex Twin during their University days together, Colourmusic has now settled on in line up that includes bassist Colin Fleishacker and drummer Nicholas Ley. With two previous albums under their belts, “F, Monday, Orange, February, Venus, Lunatic, 1 or 13” and “My ___ Is Pink”, the group have gained a justified reputation for marrying hallucinatory textures and experimental rock tropes with an off-kilter take on the world, exploring anything from writing songs based on Newton’s theory of colour, to songs written at the tempo people have sex.

'Horse Race' is one of many highlights from the new album, a lurching, behemoth groove that asks the question we all need an answer to: 'do we need Wal-Marts in Heaven'?

‘What Goes Around’ is the debut limited edition single from The Anchoress - a new project from Welsh London-based multi-instrumentalist Catherine Anne Davies, co-produced with Paul Draper. Set for release 5th May 2014 as a limited edition of 500 clear heavyweight vinyl (which sold out in 24 hours on preorder) via the prestigious Too Pure label (PJ Harvey, Stereolab, Hookworms), ‘What Goes Around’ is the first taste of The Anchoress’ forthcoming debut album and is a refreshing blast of “revenge pop”, with angular guitars and barbed lyrics framing this anthem about karmic balance.

‘What Goes Around’ will be released on May 5th 2014 via TOO PURE.

The debut single from Temples is released by Heavenly Recordings on Monday 12th November 2012.

Both tracks were recorded in early September and produced by Temples in Pyramid Studios, their home studio in Kettering.

Temples have been confirmed as main support on the forthcoming Mystery Jets tour alongside London shows with Charlie Boyer & The Voyeurs and Tribes. They will also be playing the London Calling festival in Amsterdam.
