Jim Godfrey is a Bath-based pianist, composer and producer. A multi-instrumentalist, Jim’s playing
is influenced by romantic and modernist composers, as well as more contemporary jazz,
electronica, and ambient artists. He trained with tutors at the Berkeley Jazzschool in California,
and has an MA in Sound Production from Bath Spa University.

After studying piano and composition as a teenager, Jim pursued a dual career in frontline UK
politics by day, and pianist and performer by night. He found success playing regular slots in and
around London, and accompanied singer-songwriter Billy Bragg for engagements in Manchester in
2004.

In 2021 Jim released his first album San Francisco, inspired by the unique topography of
the Bay Area and incorporating an eclectic range of influences including jazz, electronica, classical,
techno and ambient.

Following this album, in early 2023 he released an experimental improvised piece, Deconstructed Piano
Works vol 1, recorded and produced in collaboration with Bristol-based producer and sound
artist, Ben Hamid.

In late 2023 he released two piano-led EPs, returning to the theme of place, and inspired by his
recent time traveling in Japan. The Kyoto Laughing Party EP1 and EP2 contain eight simple
pieces, blending pianos with analogue synths and Japanese field recordings to create a beautiful and
evocative collection.

In addition to his solo work, Jim writes and performs with Ivor Novello nominated songwriter Kim
Oliver (Aqualung). He also performs with Noah and
The Whale founder Matt Owens in Matt’s band, The Delusional Vanity Project.

In 2023 Jim began performing his original solo piano works live for the first time - playing at
intimate venues in and around Bath, and at Glastonbury Festival in 2024.
