Night Train

Aporia is an ongoing Internet collab project based around the piano/bass duo 'KIrby/Ward'. Occasionally we capture something at rehearsal that we send to dummer Dane Renshaw (Japan) and guitarist Bruce Musser (U.S.A) to add their respective talents too. Its usually pretty spacious and dreamy : ) This time however the piece we sent out was really busy and instead of trying to pare it back we thought fuck it lets go full hog and make it super busy. So we asked Guitarist Axel Weiß (Germany)and Saxophonist Phil Bywater (Australia) to join the party. So The sextet was born. Of note is that none of the players heard any other parts of the work other than the original Piano/Bass recording, and in the  case of the Saxophones poor Phil didn't hear anything at all! I just used some work he had sent me. So all those nuanced interactions are complete sonic chance. as always Aporia may or may not record more music

Caratacus war ein Sohn des Cunobelinus, eines der mächtigsten Könige des vorrömischen Britanniens, dessen Hauptstadt das befestigte Camulodunum (heute Colchester) war. Als Cunobelinus um 40 n. Chr. starb, waren Caratacus und sein Bruder Togodumnus die bedeutendsten Herrscher im südlichen Britannien. Wie unter ihrem Vater lag das Zentrum ihres Reichs nördlich der Themse im Gebiet der Catuvellaunen und Trinovanten; aber auch die meisten Stämme in Südostengland standen unter ihrer Oberhoheit. Cunobelinus hatte während der 30 letzten Jahre seiner Herrschaft freundliche Beziehungen zu Rom unterhalten, um dieser Weltmacht keinen Grund zum Eingreifen zu geben. Seine Söhne verfolgten dagegen eine weniger vorsichtige Politik gegenüber Rom. Adminius, der wohl auch ein Sohn des Cunobelinus war, floh um 40 n. Chr. an den Hof des Kaisers Caligula, den er zu einem Einfall in Britannien bewegen wollte; doch kam es nicht dazu. Nach Münzfunden scheint Caratacus noch zu Lebzeiten seines Vaters ein Schützling seines Onkels Epaticcus gewesen zu sein, der das Gebiet der Catuvellaunen auf Kosten des Stammes der Atrebaten ausgedehnt hatte. Nach seinem Tod (um 35 n. Chr.) hatten die Atrebaten unter Verica ihr Land zurückerobert, wurden aber später von Caratacus endgültig besiegt und am Anfang der Regierung des Kaisers Claudius wurde Verica, offenbar von Caratacus, aus England vertrieben (41 n. Chr.) und floh ins Römische Reich.

Caratacus was a son of Cunobelinus, one of the most powerful kings of pre-Roman Britain, whose capital was the fortified Camulodunum (now Colchester). When Cunobelinus died around 40 AD, Caratacus and his brother Togodumnus were the most important rulers in southern Britain. As under their father, the center of their empire lay north of the Thames in the territory of the Catuvellaunes and Trinovantes; but most of the tribes in south-east England were also under their suzerainty. During the last 30 years of his reign, Cunobelinus had maintained friendly relations with Rome so as not to give this world power any reason to intervene. His sons, on the other hand, pursued a less cautious policy towards Rome. Adminius, who was probably also a son of Cunobelinus, fled to the court of Emperor Caligula around 40 AD, whom he wanted to persuade to invade Britain; however, this did not happen. According to coin finds, Caratacus appears to have been a protégé of his uncle Epaticcus during his father's lifetime, who had expanded the territory of the Catuvellauns at the expense of the Atrebates tribe. After his death (around 35 AD), the Atrebates had reconquered their land under Verica, but were later finally defeated by Caratacus and at the beginning of the reign of Emperor Claudius, Verica was expelled from England (41 AD), apparently by Caratacus, and fled to the Roman Empire.

Lunatics 215 / The great Escape / Joerxworx & Ratzzz

This is a contemporary jazz piece in my new project titled "Fables". This song is based on the Turkish fairy tale "The Wizard Dervish". This piece has the following musicians: soprano sax & alto sax by Manuel Trabucco, drums by Soykan Akkaya, bass by Doga Ay and Percussion (Cajon, Maracas, Ghungroo Bells, Shaker, Triangle and the Woodblocks) by Larry Salzman.

Aubade in the 5th section of my Philip Larking song sequence In the White Hours. Although there is a poem by Larkin with that title, this section of the work is a purely instrumental interlude 'Dawn Song' that leads into the final setting, Morning at Last.

The music industry (like many things) has changed greatly since I bought my first 45 record (Green Eyed Lady) at my hometown record shop in 1970. It would be very easy to lament over these changes (and I have.)
