@habiboi is a producer and DJ, located somewhere in the rural USA. Aside running basement parties in the surrounding areas of an undetermined college town, Habiboi has, with releases on countless weirdo hotspots of SC, from user-177606668, Jump Up Supplier, Wells Fargo and Saturate Records, cultivated a sound straddling abraded jump-up and deconstructed DnB. With a long-term classical background, his tunes and remixes rarely abide by the simplistic build-up/drop dyad of DnB, incorporating passages of ambient and settling rarely for the comfort of repetition. Bringing in unfamiliar instrumentation, hisses of noise and a structure of movements, his work always elides the conventionally expectable.

Balancing a series of driving tracks in the style mentioned above, aside shifts into minimalist soundscapes and tinges of humour, Habiboi’s mix operates as an exhibit of this evolving scene of DnB, particpating not in a reactive arms race of provacative drops or studies of mood alone, but emphasising unpredictability and scope. With a debut EP pending, the mix functions as a picture of the rare musical talent who has understood their field and updated it with something new.
