At the heart of Yard One is London’s Jordan Bruce, founder of Tact Recordings, and Manchester’s Larry Jones. The duo have released a string of material via Jordan’s imprint and the pair’s debut L.P ‘When Elements Collide’ on Tact Recordings in 2015.

Since the inception of Yard One the pair have remixed dutch duo Esther Duijn & Steady Douglas (Feelharmonic / Housewax) and seen support from a broad spectrum of leading names in the electronic music industry such as A Sagittariun, M50, J.Tijn, Tazz, Hackman and Mr.G, as well as receiving recognition for their work from electronic aficionados such as XLR8R, DJ Mag and BBC 6 Music.

SLJ-1 is a 100 % vinyl mix by Batukizer created in January 2016 before flying to Rio to DJ at two Jorge Ben shows at legendary venue Circo Voador.

The first part of the mix features alternations between JBJ tracks and versions by other artists. The first track is from 1960 and recorded by Polish Jazz musician Wroblewski's Quintet that worked as backing with José Prates (Tam Tam Tam) show during one of their European tours. The afro brazilian show concept was later refined and heavily commercialized as the Oba Oba shows.

In first 30 minutes it's a mix of 1960's and 1970's and the mix then moves into mixing 1970's with 1980's grooves which Captain Jorge and his crew master like no other band. There a great deal of Brazilian boogie and disco out there, but some of JBJ's instrumental parts are so incredibly funky they deserved to be looped on and on. That's why we need two copies of each record ❤️✌️

From Cosmic Cabo Verde to synth-reggae at the Horn of Africa.

Frankfurt-based label Analog Africa is easily one of the most noteworthy labels rescuing and reissuing Afro sounds.

In 2015, the label gave us an exceptional anthology of Afro-Cuban pioneer Amara Touré, not to mention a compilation of tracks plucked straight from the dance floors of ’70s Senegal. Last year, they blew our human minds with some of the most extraterrestrial synth music we’ve ever heard on Space Echo.

This year, the label turns ten. To celebrate label boss Samy Ben Redjeb and his DJ partner Pedo Knopp have recorded a special mix which we’re delighted to share here.

“What is special about this mix is the fact that all the songs, except one, will be released on Analog Africa in 2017,” says Samy. “They have all been handpicked by myself and mixed in real time, without loops or any other kind of gimmicks by Pedo.”

It’s a synth-ridden journey from reggae in the Horn of African to Cosmic sounds of Cabo Verde, wavey soca-boogie monsters and other proto-electronic Afro jams.

DJ passionné par les musiques de l’Atlantique Noir. Il a participé à de nombreux festivals (Wordwide Festival de Gilles Petterson, Jazz à Vienne, Tribu Festival, Invits de Villeurbanne, Nuits Sonores…). Il est Dj Résident et programmateur des Soirée Black Atlantic Club au Sucre (Lyon), à l'Opéra Undergound, Ninkasi Kao, Café à Lyon, La Bobine à Grenoble etc... : Pat Thomas, Jupiter Okwess, Vaudou Game, Batida, Family Atlantica, Ebo Taylor, Orlando Julius & Heliocentrics, Laurent Garnier, Auntie Flo, MCDE, Raoul K…. 
Il est le fondateur du blog Afrosouldescarga et anime une mixtape consacrée à ces musiques de "l'Atlantique Noir" sur, Nova Lyon, LYL Radio & Radioshic. A collaboré entre autres avec Radio Grenouille (Marseille), Radio Nova (Paris). Il donne aussi des conférences sur le sujet : Tribu Festival 2012, Musée Africain de Lyon 2013, Jazz à Vienne 2012 avec Manu Dibango, Cave à Jazz (Smac 07) 2014, Salif Keïta (Lyon 2016)…
Producteur, percussionniste son premier EP, "Cotonou", est sorti en 2018 sur le label suisse Alma Negra. Son dernier EP "Atlantic River Drive" est sorti sur le label Mawimbi Records en octobre 2020 (FIP, NOVA, RFI, RTS...). Il a aussi sorti le single "Nolias" en 2019 sur le label anglais "On the Corner Records".

James Stewart is DJ host and programmator for the Black Atlantic club monthly party at Le Sucre in Lyon. He’s active member and programmer for the collective Palmwine Records, he is the founder of the blog Afrosouldescarga and hosts radio shows devoted to Black Atlantic music on Radio Nova Lyon LYL Radio & Radioshic. He also gives lectures on the subject. Producer, percussionist, his first EP, Cotonou, was issue on Alma Negra label the 8th of june 2018. His new EP "Atlantic river drive" has been issue last october on Mawimbi Records. He also has a single, "Nolias" on the label "On the Corner Records" UK.
