J.A.Y.C.E. - Kaleidoscope EP Colours Audio 017 (COL017)


After a succession of stellar releases from other artists over the last few months on Colours Audio, label boss J.A.Y.C.E takes off his A & R hat and gets back into the studio to deliver this lush EP for his underground leading imprint.

"Groove Ascension" opens with warm synth washes while the percussive bed comes together element at a time anchored by a classic New York house bass line.  J.A.Y.C.E's deft musicianship on the keys shines though as he intertwines subdued motor city melodies over the modulating B line while perfectly placed "grooving all night long" vocal refrains ensure bodies get closer  together on the dance floor.  Essential late night gear.

The Future/Retro vibe continues on "Feel Better" as J.A.Y.C.E's trademark combination of bruising Bass lines and languid analogue melodies create an unstoppable groove.  Live modulation on the synth lines and reverberated "you know i feel better" vocals continue to draw you down the rabbit hole where Techno, House, Dub and Soul melt together into one potent mind controlling blend

J.A.Y.C.E teams up with regular collaborator  Gremlinz on "Beyond". The two of them craft a brooding early morning Dub Techno shuffler complete with head nodding tribal percussion and mournful horn blasts.  The main analogue riff constantly morphs, twists and reverses throughout locking you into the darkness of the night and keeping you there long after the sun tries to break though the garbage bags duct taped to the windows of the warehouse party you find yourself lost in.

J.A.Y.C.E continues to quietly solidify his status as a beacon in the underground with yet another top quality release on this attention grabbing label.
