I started composing in year 1991, with a Commodore Amiga computer. I released my works under the alias of Stun during that period, while being moderately active in the italian Amiga demoscene.
With time my setup evolved with more powerful computers and musical instruments. I also learned to play the electric guitar and the piano, and studied music theory.

Jim Ottaway is an international award-winning Australian musician, composer and producer of original electronic instrumental music covering many genres including electronic, ambient, new age, space music and music for film and television.

Jim’s major musical influences include Tangerine Dream, Edgar Froese, Vangelis, Pink Floyd, Enigma, Johannes Schmoelling, Tony O'Connor, Christopher Franke, Lisa Gerrard and Gary Wright.

Since 2004 Jim has released over 35 independent albums in his homeland, Australia… commencing with his first release FIRST LIGHT, a light relaxing ambient album culminating in his latest release A PROMISE OF ETERNITY an exciting electronic instrumental album, officially released in July 2024.

The inspiration for Jim's music stems from his love of nature and my spiritual connection to the beautiful environment of the Gold Coast hinterland of Queensland, Australia.

At the 14th annual Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) Awards held in New Orleans in May 2018 Jim received two awards for two of his albums:
Best Electronic Album: TIMELESS e-MOTION
Best Ambient Album: DEEP SPACE BLUE.
Jim was also nominated for Album of the Year for DEEP SPACE BLUE.

Jim was also awards Best Electronic Album at the 17th annual ZMR Awards in July 2021 for his album WHEN ETERNITY TOUCHED TIME.  The album was also nominated for Album of the Year.

Another two of Jim’s albums have received international music awards nominations. SOUTHERN CROSS and INVISIBLE VORTEX were nominated for category awards in the 2016 Zone Music Reporter Awards held in New Orleans in May 2017.  Both albums were also nominated for the 2016 One World Music Awards including SOUTHERN CROSS for ‘Album of the Year’. TIMELESS e-MOTION, BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION and THRESHOLD OF THE UNIVERSE have also received a One World Music Awards nominations in recent years.

Jim was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2016, 2017 and 2024 Global Music Awards for his albums SOUTHERN CROSS, DEEP SPACE BLUE and BEYOND THE PURPLE SUN (respectively).

Since 2010 twenty-six of Jim’s tracks have been chosen as finalist in various Australian music/songwriting awards including the Australian Songwriting Awards.

During the years 2016 to 2022 thirteen eleven of Jim’s albums charted around the world.

In 2023 Jim was awarded a Schallwelle Award in the 'Der eigene Weg' (Your Own Way) category, i.e. independent musicians, at the 15th Annual Schallwelle German Electronic Music Awards for 2022. The awards were announced at a live ceremony in Kolpinghaus Bochum-Wattenscheid, Germany. At the Schallwelle 2023 Awards Jim  was named in the Top 20 for the 'Künstler international/Best Artist international' category.

Channel dedicated to the music of Future Paradise and related projects.  Future Paradise are a songwriting partnership and band started in 1994 at Kingston University.  Primarily electronic pop with influences ranging from Morcheeba, Nellee Hooper, Pet Shop Boys and Sunscreem.
