This is the first release from John Flanagan's upcoming record 'There's Another Way to Where You're Going' which he recorded in Nashville with producer Viktor Krauss. John wrote 'Whatever Makes You Happy' with NSW based singer/songwriter Timothy James Bowen in late 2014 before recording it in Nashville as part of the album. It is a story about the end of a relationship and a selfless love that endures above jealousy and separation. The song features harmony vocals from alt-country songstress Brooke Russell. 

John's upcoming (Feb 2016) record ‘There’s another way to where you’re going’ ties together stories of outsiders: the lonely, the heartbroken and those who aren’t afraid to step aside from the mainstream. The moments of sadness blend with the uplifting to create an overarching positive message of acceptance and change.

‘High On High’ is the second single from John Flanagan’s debut album ‘There’s Another Way To Where You’re Going’ and follows the release of ‘Whatever Makes You Happy’ earlier this year.

Recorded in Nashville with producer Viktor Krauss, grammy award winning engineer Neal Cappellino and top musicians who have played on records with Willie Nelson, Robert Plant and Emmylou Harris to name a few, the new track is an homage to his hometown in the Northside of Melbourne, literally on the other side of the world to the home of its recording. 

Written about High Street, the well-known stomping ground that traverses the Melbourne suburbs of Thornbury and Northcote, the track is inspired by John’s experience as a poor but happy musician living in the area, being surrounded by the thriving melting pot of music and culture that co-exist on the strip.

Despite being many miles away from Nashville, High Street has been coined the country music capital of Australia boasting the highest number of country songwriters according to a recent poll by APRA/AMCOS. 

Combining 70s folk singer/songwriter influences with a contemporary Americana sound, John Flanagan is firmly on music lovers and industry watch lists since recording his latest album There’s Another Way to Where You’re Going in Nashville with producer Viktor Krauss. Flanagan says “There’s Another Way to Where You’re Going ties together stories of the outsiders: the lonely, the heartbroken and those who aren’t afraid to step aside from the mainstream. The moments of sadness intertwine with the uplifting to create an overarching message of acceptance and change.”
