"Also known as Malii Yorks, I'm an Amsterdam based artist who is passionate about making refined ceramics and composing deep rhythms within the spectrum of techno as a genre. 

This recording shows my love for deep percussive techno rhythms and was made in the period when I was moving to another house and therefore had no studio for a while. It was a warm week with high temperatures so I often sat outside on the balcony with a small controller recording mixes. This one contains some of my favs and some tracks of my own."

In 2023, I spent some time living above the Arctic Circle off the northern coast of Norway. Living in isolation on a island no more then 2km in radius, I spend my days collecting field recordings, composing new music, taking photographs, reading and writing. The purpose of the project was to capture images and sounds of the landscape to create a audio/visual experience that transforms the viewer/listener on their own meditative journey inward - 'Solar Image' is the first sonic incantation of a new audio/visual body of work. 

For this track, I have invited Dutch DJ, Producer and a label owner Rambadu to interpret my field recordings and images to create a rework of 'Solar Image' titled 'Solar Image (Rambadu Thermohaline Circulation)' referring to the natural process when sea ice forms in the polar regions, leaving behind salt that makes the surrounding water saltier and denser. This denser water sinks, creating a current that moves slowly through the ocean. Thermohaline circulation (THC) is a large-scale ocean current system that moves water and heat, and is a vital part of the global carbon dioxide and nutrient cycles

"Influenced by the forces of nature, Rambadu celebrates the universal connection between beings and their surroundings. 

In recent years, he has researched the energetic powers and healing properties of sound, diving deep into the literature to better understand our inner and outer worlds.

Singing bowls, percussion, and various acoustic instruments are blended with hardware devices while modulating field recordings to create a sensual dance, taking you further into the sonic realms."

Through overwhelming days and times of strife, an emphasis to look inwards and reflect seems appropriate. Outside stressors abound, almost at every turn it seems as the world claws at your mental stability. Italian producer, dj and more, Simone Gatto’s forthcoming Invisible Love album on his own Pregnant Void imprint marks a response to these negative forces. Giving space, soft moments of introspection and smooth melodies that all lend well to its healing nature.

Like a deep breath, The Secret of Quantum Life slowly begins. In and out, in and out. The meditative nature can’t be ignored, Simone’s background influences coming through in spades as warm tones envelop the listener, accentuated by generative warbles providing movement and spontaneity. As the track progresses, varying swirls and melodic eddies appear, like changes in the wind.

Gatto’s Invisible Love album will be released on the 7th of February.

Âsan (@hassansiddiqui90) is a New York-based producer and DJ, and the co-runner of the prestigious underground label and mix series platform Cellar Doors (@cellardoorspace), alongside his friend Marek.

Author's Note:

I met Joan in the spring of 2024 when he visited New York for the Delayed Getaway in the Catskills. He’s one of those people who immediately draws you in - bubbly and lively. There’s a curiosity and energy about him, but also a certain mystery that makes you want to keep the conversation going. And that’s exactly what we did. We had long, winding discussions about all kinds of music - the kind you wouldn’t usually hear on a dance floor. It’s the kind of thing you only discover when music nerds get together. Our talks stretched from Japanese jazz to Sufi artists, and somewhere in between.
I already knew about the platform and the incredible artists who had been featured, so when Joan invited me to contribute, I was thrilled - but also a little lost. I had no idea what I wanted it to sound like. I knew I wanted to create something special (doesn’t everyone?), especially since I don’t often explore experimental or ambient mixes. That’s not to say HOC Radio is limited to that- there’s everything from drum & bass to techno, deep house, deep techno, and beyond. For six to eight months, I searched for tracks that could fit, some from my collection and others from my wishlist. I attempted the mix a few times, but it never fully clicked. The tracks were great individually, but together, something felt off. Sometimes, that just happens.
Then, a few weeks ago, a friend lent me his Sherman Filterbank and suggested I try it out, knowing I love alienating sounds. I hooked it up to my computer, ran samples, speeches, chords- anything I could find - through it, and spent weeks jamming. That experiment led to an hour-long piece that finally felt right - it became the foundation of my mix. Like a novel with a continuous backstory, this piece became my anchor, while my own music from the past two years fit in naturally as its chapters. I had finally found what I was looking for.

The time has come to unveil the label's next release in cassette and digital format. The aim of the ACCENTAPE series is to bring two artistic worlds together, to give the listener a sense of the echoes and resonances between musical approaches whose aesthetics are either not so far apart, or on the contrary, sometimes to play on contrasts and offer albums with more depth. For this new release, it's more a question of two worlds criss-crossing and meeting in a softness and light of musical tones made of complementarity and chromatic sensitive reverberations.
Avsluta is a London-based artist, producer and DJ, curator of the Introspective Electronics radio show and podcast series and organiser of Terra Obscura parties with 10 years under her belt at London’s electronic music institution Phonica Records. Apart from her solo work, she is one half of Vādin, a musical project in collaboration with sound artist Christian Duka. She has released music on Indefinite Pitch, Secuencias Temporales and Huinali, and her musical approach is both atmospheric and organic, including field-recording and vocals, tribal and polyrhythmic percussion. Her signature sound is organic, sensitive and bewitching.
Adhémar is a Paris-based artist, painter, producer and DJ whose approach is deliberately synaesthetic, in which he translates pictorial and coloured sensations into ethereal and dreamlike waves. He is also known for his progressive and delicate DJ sets, notably for renowned series such as Monument, Silent Season, Delayed, and has released EPs on labels such as Different Exhibition, Huinali, Initiate, Ritualism, Artscope...
ACCENTAPE009 is an ideal shared album for this new spring season which promises to be sunny and mild, like the budding of trees, the return of birds, and the flowering of nature.
