a rather overwrought, over-processed set of sounds; the ice rattling has been draggged, filtered, tweaked; the hiss is a consequence of recording 90 minutes of the ice melting and then speeding it up grossly, the sine-ish tone is from the cubes' rattling slowed down dramatically... that said i find it pleasing in its own way, even as i sort of wish it was more fluid, more mercurial. It is, as they say, what it is.

you'll be unsurprised to learn that somebody who makes the kind of aimless and wayward audio that's posted here has little patience with proper recipes and has an affection for the oleaginous, blended & pungent. So yeah i acquired some lemons, tinned chick peas and a jar of black olives took them home, drained two tins of chick peas and a generous number of the olives. In a pyrex dish i mixed a table spoon of wholegrain tahani with a lot of ground cumin, a little coriander, a smidge of turmeric, a generous amount of garlic pepper, a touch of paprika  & a slug of olive oil. I placed the chick peas and olives in the dish and chopped half a green chili over them. I subsequently started to blend the ingredients with a hand blender. I then added the juice of two lemons and a couple of cloves of garlic before blending further. Finally, i chopped the remainder of the chili and mixed that in for good measure. Sounds for each step/ingredient were recorded and then chopped brutally, arbitrarily and whimsically to make this percussive shamble. The hummus has been good on toast so far and will be eaten again later today with baked potatoes and pickled cabbage; i anticipate having hummus in my sandwiches at work until tuesday, possibly Wednesday. 

I believe this fulfills the criteria for this week's assignment.

Nothing much doing in Suburban tyneside at midnight - the lightest of drizzles [check that drip on mic thud 23 seconds in] the rattle of a piece of plastic we use to discourage cats from crapping in our pots, fairly distant traffic . . .

mind, i guess This time on a Sunday/Monday night is perfect; always stolen-seeming somehow.

i hope, following Marc's project description, that something interesting can be wrung out of this quite dull quiet audio.

i selected little one, two, three seconds slivers from each of the tracks before making a wonky little semi-articulated beat out of them. I then dragged this pattern through a number of packages and filters and effects 'til it sounded suitably curious and immersive and hadn't quite renounced all sense of rhythm.[fwiw, it's designed to loop.]

i think Girl Talk in Box is designed foo proper music rather than my wayward cobblesounds; firm beats and consistent beats, melodic blocks and such. Pretzel (1979) Zone 26 (as Seen On Tv Juicer Boxmix) [disquiet0162 - Juntoinabox]

Small sections of https://soundcloud.com/jmmy-kpple/0000-0001-approx-260115-disquiet0160-oneminutepastmidnight & https://soundcloud.com/kuromiya-hideyuki/conbini & https://soundcloud.com/otolythe/onepastmidnight were taken and looped; i liked my drizzle, Peggy's traffic and Hideyuki's quiet retail. I made little selections and looped and faded them; everything was reversed and re-reversed and reversed again that i'm not sure which sections are the right way around anymore. The truck was granulated, small amounts of reverb and delay were added; at least one layer of the conbini is going through a phaser.

The final piece is busy but still oneiric somehow i hope; my instinct fro clutter winning out over my desire for quiet. This minute loops awkwardly but quite well i think.

SUPER-POSITION (combini/drizzle/truck)[disquiet0163-layeringminutes]

The quietest room in my flat is my bedroom; a small room at the end of the hall, filled - say two-thirds up - with, like, the second cheapest bed Ikea sold ten years ago, whatever that's called.

I set the recorder going before shutting the door and then sat on the edge of the bed whilst Alex lay reading. It was nigh-on silent, to the point that i thought about how bad my tinnitus could be said to be, and whether even that's what i could *hear*. I thought about the warm comfort of the room i was in and how it can be assumed to contrast with wherever Bassel Khartabil is obliged to remain. I thought about what to do with this silence which is as good as any afforded by my relatively cheap recorder. I thought about how it wasn't that great a silence; remembered the pleasing, amusing list of silent records in Craig Dworkin's No Medium; i even did my best to be blank, to think nothing, to do something like contemplate what it's like to be held prisoner...

To make the actual track i looped and tweaked various sections - the tens seconds immediately following the door's closing is repeated adn you can hear a dull click which is probably the door or possibly a button on my jeans hitting the edge of the bed repeated through much of the track; i slowed a section of the ten seconds down and these two percussive events begin to suggest something like a clock or clocks. Other sections of more pure silence were stretched and dragged and panned and sort of... suggest their presence in either left or right channel at various points in the track.

It's a clumsy, cheap and over-worked 'silence' and i can't imagine it truly soothing but it is also is an accurate picture of my inarticulacy in the face of the wider world and a literally mute but otherwise earnest plea for freedom for everybody held unjustly and against their will and wish for something peacable and calm in the hearts of everybody everywhere.

Three layers at varying levels, all constructed from the poorly-record agitated beep of a cash machine; all pitched down dramatically 'cause it's a head-doer otherwise.

Layers in order of audibility - tiny slice of beep dragged out for solid bass and intriguing muffled pseudo-percussion; highly granulated sound sent through a phaser 'cause why not & the full sample, pitched down delayeded and phased. 

I believe this track fulfills the criteria for this week's assignment.

i took tiny .223 sections of https://soundcloud.com/jmmy-kpple/0000-0001-approx-260115-disquiet0160-oneminutepastmidnight and repeated them [random number] times up to a minute; i did this three times, panned the three sequences a little. These random stuttersequences - *glitches* - were then added to a copy of the original track so as the one[s] could interfere with the other[s]; i can't imagine somebody in the junto hasn't already done pretty much this - now to listen & find out . . . . . . .

I got Destroy nothing; Destroy the most important thing from http://oblicard.com/. I was lost; this, obviously, is almost too gnomic; how is one supposed to follow both parts of this fragment? I fiddled a bit and decided to reduce https://soundcloud.com/jmmy-kpple/a-number-of-events-that-last-point-two-two-three-seconds-disquiet0170-midnightglitch to a lo-resolution mp3 & then feed it through digigrunge in audiomulch. This pleasead a little, so i did it a few more times to not particularly intense but subtle differentation. So i'd destroyed something; to destroy nothing i took the liberty of adding https://soundcloud.com/jmmy-kpple/0000-0001-approx-260115-disquiet0160-oneminutepastmidnight back in to the shivery-murk i'd created; this probably amounts to a short circuit too but not in the peas-in-lap kind of way.

i made extended loops and sequences of the three samples with a view to making something that was dense and molten; i adjusted speed and pitch egregiously. I was maybe more deliberately interested in merging and smearing the samples into difficult to recognise shapes than normal but i still think they're clearly *there*; i didn't really work against their tendency to drone and hang. on reflection, i didn't really intend it to be so bleak-sounding either but it is what it is.

i'm always spooked when i'm obliged to be melodic... this is teh result of a rather convoluted journey to a drone - a small section of Michael Raphael (aka Sepulchra)'s original recording [02m45.614 - 3m62.080] was cropped and filtered before being looped and looped and layered and reversed and phased slightly and looped and layered and reversed and looped over again a few times; i then selected a section from this longer clag of loops and layers to fade-in and out alongside a little buried granulated burble.

to make turbid by stirring up the sediment or dregs of [disquiet0178-sepulchrabells]

for me the most salient aspects of matryoshka dolls for me are that they each contain a replica of themsleves at lower resolution [until, of course, they don't] 

with that in mind i adapted [an admittedly dull] minute's field recording, making six versions, each sped up by about a sixth and rendered as lower and lower resolution mp3s; i then split each down the middle so in some [brute & ovbvious] sense each version contains each version [until it doesn't]

i'm not sure how listenable the result is but i also don't think it's unintriguing in it's own small way

These loops were panned a little and faded up & down inconsistently. i then added a distorted rumble extracted from a month old field recording and slowed, reversed rain that i recorded Tuesday night.

I’ve personally seen that myself [disquiet0190-missedconnections]

i recorded a sample from the second hand on an old battery-powered clock we have kicking about in the backroom and just made a bunch of percussive patterns with it - pitching it up, pitching it down &c &c mainly in homely old copy of Fruity Loops 6. 

THE QUESTION MARKS SHOULD BE CLOCK FACES

I was like *this* close to not uploading it as it didn't seem particularly sweet or playful *but* i made it playfully which i think counts for something & i can't be the only person who finds something sweet in shimmers, thumps, and rumbles, can i? & i overshot a little too; still i think this still just about meets the criteria for this week's assignment.

i was a little stuck with this one - for time, for ideas i guess - but felt a real urge to get back into the junto swing; & if it hasn't got the possibility of failing, of not working, it's not an experiment, right?

Anyhow, I made a simple, though hopefully diverting enough beat in Fruityloops, layered it with some rainfall recorded this afternoon then distorted and filtered everything until it made appealing fizzes and slurps; obviously i pitched most everything down and reversed it all too - what can i say? I Have A Problem. i dragged M1 into low rumbles and hisses after tinkering with it aimlessly; i chopped M2 into a faintly jittery pattern before slowing and adding reverb adding reverb and a little distortion, These tracks were mixed & mingled with more or less granular delay and a little more reverb until i made this.
