Pulse & Pattern is the brainchild of Victor Garibaldi and Mario SOI, a dynamic duo united by a shared vision of pushing the boundaries of electronic music. Born from a deep passion for sonic exploration, their project merges the hypnotic depth of techno with the melodic drive of progressive house, crafting a forward-thinking sound that thrives at the cutting edge of the underground scene. Their sets and productions are a blend of raw energy and refined emotion, a balance that speaks to both seasoned ravers and devoted audiophiles. I am a devoted admirer of medieval music, and for over two decades I have lived inside its echoes, its modes, drones, courtly dances, and sacred resonances, translating them into a modern voice that still feels as old as stone. My work is rooted in the Castle Core aesthetic: evocative, atmospheric, and architectural. I build music like one builds a fortress, by layering arches of melody over foundations of rhythm, by carving timbres that feel weather worn and timeless, and by letting silence act as shadow. The result is a sound world that is both cinematic and intimate, at once austere and richly ornamented.

I am a multi instrumentalist by craft and temperament, with the violin as my lifelong compass. Trained as a professional violinist, I treat the instrument not only as a melodic narrator but also as an engine for texture, bowed whispers, harmonics like candlelight, and double stops that carry the weight of stone walls. Yet the violin is only one voice in a broader choir. I play and record a range of instruments, strings, plucked and bowed, hand percussion and frame drums, drones and keyboards, sculpting each layer with a producer’s ear and a historian’s curiosity.

I handle the entire production process myself. Composition, performance, recording, editing, mixing, and mastering all live under one roof, which gives my music a coherent atmosphere, nothing feels imported; everything is grown from the same soil. Over the years, this self contained approach has evolved into a signature workflow: I begin with a pulse or a drone, something elemental that sets the scale of the room, and then I weave in motifs that move like lantern light through corridors. The violin often enters last, not as a flourish, but as a storyteller stepping into view.

My musical language draws on medieval modalities and rhythms, Dorian, Phrygian, and Mixolydian colors; isorhythmic hints; the grounded insistence of bourdon, as well as on the rough hewn beauty of folk traditions. I am less interested in historical reenactment than in living memory, the feeling that a melody might have been sung in a great hall, or hummed by a traveler at dusk, or carried by wind across a battlement. That is the soul of Castle Core to me, a sense of place made audible. The music does not describe the castle; it inhabits it.

After more than twenty years, I have learned to trust slowness. Some pieces emerge quickly, as if I had only to open a window and let them in. Others require patience, days of adjusting mic positions, repainting the sonic palette, moving from gut strings to steel, swapping a frame drum pattern for a subtler heartbeat. I welcome that process. It is how the music gathers depth. I tend to record in low light, with minimal screens, letting my ears guide decisions before my eyes do. When I mix, I aim for a breathing dynamic, peaks that feel like torch flares, valleys that feel like cloisters.

My influences are varied, but they all share a devotion to mood and materiality, early music ensembles, folk fiddlers, cathedral acoustics, and contemporary ambient composers who understand that a single sustained note can hold a landscape. I often imagine architecture while composing, gatehouses, keeps, chapels, stairwells, and I build arrangements to match them, narrow passages opening into vast chambers, concealed alcoves revealed by a modulation, a hidden door suggested by a counter melody.

As a performer, I value restraint. Virtuosity is a tool, not a destination. The violin can dazzle, yes, but it can also console, bless, and haunt. I am happiest when a line feels inevitable, simple, shaped by breath, aligned with the grain of the piece. When recording multiple instruments myself, I think in terms of ensemble etiquette, each voice knows when to step forward and when to recede. That is how the music keeps its dignity.

Cue the bass…Deep in the heart of the ghetto, on the mean streets of Chicago’s infamous Southside, a music pioneer was born…
From the beginning, Thomas “DJ Slugo” Kendricks was influenced by his cousin, DJ Geno, a member of a local Chicago hot mix group, and other local icons such as the Hot Mix 5 (of Chicago radio). Slugo, with 20+ years in the game, over 20 albums in his pocket and over 50 CDs on the street, began a journey that lead him to become one of the original creators of a style of music commonly known as Ghetto House, more recently regarded as Juke.
Ghetto House, an urban dance sound created by inner-city producers from raw walks of life and derived from Old School House, is steeped with nuances from ghetto-life traditions and descriptions of the hood through rhythm. It moves beyond the just being and dives right into the metaphysical, with its rhythmic, infectious energy exciting the inner spirit and making folk return to their Motherland dance roots.
The magic struck Slugo at a high school dance where he asked the DJ if he could spin a couple of tracks. Although his set only lasted a brief 15 minutes, it ignited a flame that burns brighter than ever today.
From 1984-1987, Slugo honed his skills by observing the skills of his local heroes. Participating in heated DJ battles won him acclaim as a technical expert on the wheels of steel. He released his first truly professional mix tape Ghetto Mix Part III (1992). This tape landed in the hands of Ray Barney, CEO of the Chicago-based Dance Mania, one of the largest dance music labels in the world. Barney and Slugo formalized an agreement resulting in a long stream of releases on the Dance Mania label and affording Slugo the freedom to form his own label, Subterranean Playhouse.
During this same period, friend and fellow producer Paul Johnson introduced Slugo to a southern promoter, which culminated his professional merge into the rave scene. His unheard of Ghetto style of mixing quickly made him a favorite to tens of thousands of partygoers and promoters alike.
The release of the popular Cardboard Booty mix CD, called “the most influential ghetto house CD ever made” by London’s Underbeat Magazine, who also went on to call DJ Slugo, “the Ghetto-father of the American dance floor.” As his fame spread, releases with other national labels, such as Underground Construction, Dance Mania, GTI Records, Serotonin Records, Data Bass, CWAL Mob Recordings, Wide Records and Crosstalk International, Inc., as well as his follow up album, The Ghetto Don, flew off the shelves.
Taking his career to the next level, Slugo signed with the 1 electronic music booking agency in the United States, Teknomafia. With Teknomafia’s 10-year strong foothold on the nationwide rave, club & concert market as well as national distribution for his future releases, the only question that remained was where to begin. Slugo later said that this proved to be one of the best decisions made for his career. After Teknomafia shut their doors and in order to progress into mainstream music, DJ Slugo was the only electronic artist kept on the roster.
2002 saw Slugo returning to his roots with new projects, Where the Rats and Godzilla. Slugo calls these releases without a doubt, some of his best work. They have also without a doubt, exceeded the sales of nearly every other release he has done to this date and which lead to his wildly successful “Godzilla” track becoming a worldwide phenomenon.
After a yearlong respite to rethink his career path, Slugo is back in the game and taking the world by storm. Recent affiliations with England’s Wide Adventure and Crosstalk International, Inc. promise many great things to come.

Ashley has graced the decks on many of nights at Summer-ized Sessions, NuHouse, House of Waladeen and Cerebo. Playing alongside some of the best known heavy weights Donna Love, Jai Baisden, Jake Walpole, Martin Ikin, Clive Henry and Jack Dee proving he means business on the music scene.

Partnered alongside with Jai Baisden, they form Duo called MIRROR IMAGE, playing fearsome sets on Flight FM every Thursday 4-6pm. With Ashley's vocal choices and Jai's melodic flow, they are definitely a team to watch out for.
