The thing of playing with music with Kenny is that we buzz off similar records and situations so we rarely need to discuss what to play, we just sort of let it happen.  Similarly in this instance we agreed not to plan anything in advance, Kenny just showed up with some records, we then did a quick selection from what we had there and recorded it; in between mixes we had to run after the cat in the garden who had no intention of coming in for the night, the rascal.

I don’t think we've dj'd for less than 3hrs in a club together —longest was around 7-8hrs so it was different to us recording something like this— it’s always different playing at home to being in a club, so I guess it’s like a "snippet" of a set I might play with Leo.

Imagine yourself wandering around the countryside of a central European country in the mid ‘80s after taking a heavy dosage of debilitating narcotics, looking for a rave that you can hear in the distance but are too inebriated to find, until the very end of it.

Recorded by Open Kitchen on The 4th of July, 2000 during an electrical storm on Coad Mountain, Co. Kerry. 
As we were laying down the basic tracks, thunder, lightning and high winds blew all around Simon Taylor's house where the band and producer Lance Hogan of Kila were recording. The song was written in and around 1995 after Open Kitchen played some US gigs that year. The phrase "Global America" was an observation originally made by Brian Carroll. It started as 2 chord noise rant, but on Coad Mountain was given a chord structure by Lance and soon tidied up by the almighty Open Kitchen rhythm section of ShaneDaBass and Martin Leahy. Shane Scanlan performed a killer guitar solo at the end. Apart from Lance, most of Kila are chanting on this track, too. 
It was released on the Open Kitchen album "Taking' It In" in 2002. 
In 2007, it climbed up Neil Young's Anti-War Song Chart to reach No. 40, 
competing with thousands of songs from all over the world...
this led to some soap operatic consequences 'round Cork City...
but that's another tale...
not to be told here...  

Global America

THis was a little home recording to remember a great night of music, the brilliant James Eliot Taylor played at the Pav in Cork on New Year's Day 2012 and David Nelligan played bass as well as being on vocals along with Andy Wilson!
