Between stridencies and jazz orchestrations in the style of the nouvelle vague films of the 60's, HEAVY emerges: a work that projects an apparently improvised sound energy, where the saxophone orchestra takes center stage, competing in a constant sonic interaction with the solo saxophone. The presence of electronics in the work goes beyond being a mere decorative element; it constantly reacts, creating counterpoints that enrich the musical experience. This work is a psychedelic and liberating universe that is part of Fuentes' catalog, merging his creative concerns by mixing styles such as spectral, jazz and electroacoustic. (LondonHall Editions)

Cette pièce est composée en connexité avec la chanson Hotel California du groupe de rock The Eagles.
En regardant de plus près les paroles de cette dernière, on s’aperçoit qu’il ne s’agit pas d’une simple ballade nostalgique mais qu’il est question d’un endroit ressemblant à une sorte de prison dorée…
 Paradis ou enfer ?

D’une manière générale, il est question de la dissension entre ce que nous sommes amenés à faire et ce que nous souhaitons faire, entre ce que l’on attend de nous et qui nous sommes…
Comme il est dit dans la chanson traditionnelle alsacienne D’r Hans im Schnokeloch : « ce qu’il veut, il ne l’a pas et ce qu’il a, il ne le veut pas ».

Cette pièce témoigne de ma volonté d’hybrider différentes esthétiques musicales (rock, électro, électroacoustique, contemporaine, improvisation) afin que la mise en relation d’éléments disparates produise la création d’un langage qui nous pousse sans cesse à nous interroger sur notre identité. Se transformer de façon continue sans se perdre.

Sections of vastly different energy levels placed within a cohesive formal structure. From wake to sleep; a grinding forward to suspended quiet. The timbral diversity of the ensemble allows for compelling unisons, textural matches, and transfers, with large-scale harmonic clusters combining to form vibrant hues.

Quintet was funded (in part) by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the Queens Council on the Arts Community Fund.

Fracciones del tiempo

I premiered this work for baritone saxophone at Mixtur Barcelona Festival in April, 27th 2018.

Florent was a participant of the Composition and Sound Experimentation Workshop of this festival and wrote this short piece in order to explore the sound possibilities of this instrument and to have a material to write an other piece later.

Later, I proposed Florent to include his piece in a compilation called "Suite Mixtur" and the composer did a few modifications on the original version. This new version was recorded by Antonio Velasco at Calafell Sound Recording Studio in June 2021.

Saxopho(e)nix (2014) for sax trio

I premiered more than 60 works of different genres of music by composers such as Joan Bagés Rubí, José Luis Campana and Hans Peter Stubbe Teglbjaerg, among others. Of particular note was the ‘Concerto for baritone saxophone, piano and string orchestra’ by Albena Petrovic-Vratchanska, at the Luxembourg Philharmonie in June 2018. 
My varied music projects, focused mainly on new music, have brought me to perform in Europe, America and Australasia in festivals such as Mixtur Barcelona (2018), New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival (USA 2017), Rc4 (Brazil 2015) and Classical:NEXT (Austria 2014 and Germany 2022). 
I have been a member of several chamber music groups such as the saxophone quartet SAX 3+1 (1994-2013) or Sigma woodwind trio (2004-2007). Currently, I collaborate with Morphosis Ensemble and some groups of contemporary music.
