Be Still the Earth : Such a Light Surrounding

Approaching Distance is the lead single from Songs for Storms, the new EP from eminent ambient artist We Dream of Eden (Kirk Smith)

Following on from his full-length album Deeper Still, this new release is an exploration of anticipation and powerlessness in the face of an impending storm. Alongside this slightly dark atmosphere, Smith shares that “there is also that peaceful feeling of life after the rain; the earth is clean and well watered and the streets glisten.”

The juxtaposition of feelings and sounds was key to the composition of the music, with modulated synths creating an electronic feel contrasting against field recordings of rain, and an old out of tune upright piano that provided the centrepiece to much of the EP.
