Ursula 1000 - Rump (AGFA remix) [130]

It is one of the most anticipated Global DJ Broadcast episodes every year, and for many a highlight of the summer (no pressure guys!), where I dedicate myself to crafting a special 2 hour mix containing some of the most beautiful melodies and early morning moments that have graced the beaches and shores of Ibiza and beyond - the Sunrise Set.

After 3 months of preparation in ensuring that this would be a journey to remember and appreciated, I showcased it to the world on Global DJ Broadcast, and as requested by the fans, here it is for all of you to enjoy and stream at your leisure.

It's been a couple of years since i've done one of these, but with the amount of good music that's been released in 2013 i really couldn't resist putting in the effort. The tracks that made it in this mix are the ones that really stood out for me and managed to still sound fresh after many plays, i've decided not to approach this mix from a club perspective because i didn't want it to end up sounding like just another live recording. i've been working on the tracklist all year, so i hope you guys enjoy it even though i had to remove 4 tracks from the end as Ableton wouldn't let me bounce the project because it was too big... Available for download here is an unofficial remix I have done of one of my all-time favourite tunes from the start of the 90s . This track totally takes me back to the early rave /  free party scene in the UK when I had just started DJing and was still going to school !! Mental Cube being Future Sound of London under a different name , this was released around the same time as  Papua New Guinea , and is equally as important a record in my opinion ! Staying true to the original and just boosting it up to make it suitable for today's dancefloor , I hope you like what you hear and thanks for listening :)

You may recognise “Behind The Mirror” as being the excellent closing track on CD2 of John Digweed’s latest “Live In London” 4xCD mix compilation on Bedrock. Spain’s Miguel Bastida and Austria’s Florian Kaltstrøm have joined forces with Florian’s fellow countrymen Emil Berliner, Philip Straub and Christoph Abele (aka caTekk) to great a stunning 4-track EP to kick off 2013 in style.

“Behind The Mirror” is all about elegant rhythms, powerful percussion, deep, driving bass and brooding atmospheres, making it a standout track. Emil Berliner (who takes his artist name from the German-born American inventor who is best known for developing the disc record gramophone in the 1890’s) takes things into deeper tech-house territory with his delicious dub-influenced tech re-work.

“Glasso Phone” develops a more organic vibe with vocal snippets over a hypnotic, hissing, percussive backdrop. This is a theme that is expanded upon by Philipp Straub and CaTekk as they develop an absorbing rollercoaster bass heavy groove with their unforgettable remix.

The “De Barcelona a Viena EP” is the first of many exciting new releases coming on Bedrock in 2013. Watch out!

"Jody Wisternoff's Anjunadeep 05 Sampler" includes four choice tracks from the Bristolian's forthcoming mix on "Anjunadeep 05" including some brilliant production moments from the man himself. 

First up, is Jody's moody and atmospheric take on Above & Beyond's "Alchemy" - featuring the ethereal vocals of Zoë Johnston. Wrapping a deep, Bristol bass groove and hypnotic pads around the familiar lyrics, Jody reconstructs the track as a musically rich, rave-edged deep house anthem.

Having debuted with the much-loved "Anything" and "Don't You Leave Me" release last year, London's Alfred Taylor returns to the label with the musical "Kuza". An upfront groover built for the dancefloor, "Kuza" brings together soulful vocal refrains, classy melodic touches and an infectious bass groove to devastating effect. 

Continuing the deep bass theme, Skanna vs. Jody Wisternoff "This Way" sees Jody rework the cult classic jungle record from 1992 - "This Way" (originally by Skanna) - into a gorgeous upfront deep house cut. Maintaining the haunting vibes and elegant but edgy melodies of the original, Jody transforms the essence of the original brilliantly with a rich arrangement and rolling bassline. 

Completing the package is Jody's reshape of Kahwe's "Driving Me Wild" - a track that picked up a 4/5 review on Resident Advisor earlier this year. Giving the track a fresh twist for his "Anjunadeep 05" mix, Jody adds layers of melodic texture and an energetic breakbeat to give the track an extra dimension - continuing his subtle junglist revival theme.
