Recorded in a New Malden bedroom, October 1973

Another bedroom demo, recorded around the same time as “And I Never Took You To A Festival”.  As with many of these old recordings, the tape was pretty mangled at the end so hope you won’t mind the attempt at masking this in the best way I could.  Hope it doesn’t impair your enjoyment too much.  I 'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been such a supporter of this page over the last 18 months or so.  Our family has been astounded by  all the support and We need to you all to know that every one of your kind words means the whole world.  You are the kindest of people and we will never forget the support you have given.  You have hearts the size of lions.  It means everything.  Our deep love and appreciation can never be enough to repay you all..

Old Road

Certains paradis peuvent cacher des enfers

C’était une zone pavillonnaire
Le long de l’allée d’un château
Entourée d’arbre centenaires
Qui couraient le long d’un ruisseau

J’ai oublié   certains prénoms
Mais je me souviens de Manon
D’Henri de Camille et Julie 
Qui formaient le clan Lombardi

On s’retrouvait sur la terrasse
Trois planches à la cime d’un arbre 
On voyait d’en haut le quartier
Julie faisait semblant d’voler

Le jours de pluie les jours d’ennuie
On se rendait tous au château 
Les Lombardi n’étaient pas riches
Mais ils possédaient un piano. 

Y’avait tant d’douceur dans ces murs
Tant de bonté  
dans ces cœur purs
Que J’ne voyais pas les brulures
Qui couvraient les meubles 
Les fractures

Le père était dans les affaires
La mère enseignait le piano
Moi j’y ai appris à danser
La valse et puis le fandango  

Là bas j’ai découvert Zola 
Camus Kessel et puis Dumas
On y parlait aussi d’amour 
Julie  souvent passait son tour

Henri racontait des histoires
De monstres qui rampaient sous les lits
Qu’il appelait mangeurs d’espoir
Qui nous terrorisait la nuit 

Un soir que l’on dormait là-bas
Julie est montée sur le toit
Elle disait vouloir s’envoler
Sans Manon elle serait tombée   
 
Y’avait tant de  douceur dans ces murs
Tant de bonté dans ses cœur purs
Que je n’ai pas vu  les griffures
Qui couvraient les meubles les morsures

Maintenant le château est rasé 
Et la famille s’est dispersée
Je sais que Camille est mariée
Qu’Henri aussi a divorcé 

J’ai su par Manon pour Julie
Les monstres dont parlait Henri 
Venaient trop souvent dans son lit
Elle s’est envolée une nuit

Y’avait tant dans douleur dans ces murs
Tant de secrets sous ces armures
Tant de violences sur des cœurs purs
Tant de folies dans cet azur

Johnny Mc Farlane "It is hard to escape the unrest in the world at the moment, horrific picture of starving children, millions dying in wars, Psychopaths running countries and threatening nuclear war if they don’t get what they want. Very frightening times.

All of this is having a profound effect on me and I am sure on a lot of normal people and I wonder, do these So called leaders have any idea of the effect all of these bombs going off and exhaust from tanks and jest is having on our Atmosphere ? what would happen to humanity if they actually did press that Nuclear button? Armageddon would be released followed by disease and mother earth would fight back.

With this as a mental backdrop, I had an idea for a song about the last human being left alive on Earth after such an event. There would have to be a “ Last man standing “ A bitter sweet experience to have survived nuclear wars, pandemic after pandemic and the death of life on the planet but to be All alone in this empty world. Finn the lyrics and this is the result, another Mc Farlane – Finn Eces number for the growing catalogue!"

This tune started with the random, goofy title. I came up with the basic music and melody, then left it for a while because it didn't turn out well. I gave it another try, and this is the finished song. It's definitely a potluck one, filled with lyrics that are more about cadence than making sense. I hope you enjoy!
