My version of this much-covered song, but I can see why there are so many versions, the melody is incredible. I had a lot of fun trying out different chords and harmonies, as with any good traditional folk melody there is a lot of room for variation and ornamentation.

A more stripped back, lighter and more melodic piece I wrote purely for guitars. There are spanish flavours mixed with traditional folk sounds, enjoy!

JPJ - "Man's Best Friend" (instrumental)

Here I have taken two lamentations from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, one which can be heard during the death of Haldir in The Two Towers as part of the "Isengard Unleashed" track, and one that is heard in Lothlorien following Gandalf's death in The Fellowship of the Ring and is part of the "Lothlorien" track. 
This is one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, and in particular the ethereal, choral themes Shore devised for the Elves are often overlooked, but they never fail to send shivers down my spine. I experimented with long and irregular bars, bi-rhythms and polyphony in order to mimic the free-flowing atmosphere of the original pieces whilst maintaining some sort of constant rhythm. Enjoy!  

Elvish Lament Themes (Howard Shore) - Cover by JPJ

An instrumental track I wrote using symphonic and progressive elements to create something with an "epic" sound in order to represent the ancient idea of one's descent or passage through great trial and ordeal (represented usually by the underworld or hell) as a necessary suffering leading to betterment and proof of worth, although not always in the most obvious way.

I kept the structure, melody and harmony identical to the original, and worked out the parts by ear. Enjoy!

So, this is my metal cover of this fantastic piece from The Planets by Holst. What I did NOT want this to be was simply me taking each of the parts for the orchestra and playing them on guitar, as that would require no creativity or arrangement. So I have tried to remain as faithful to the original piece as possible whilst also adding new elements that hopefully make it work better with a rock band-type set up, although having said that it naturally lends itself to metal. I am intending to do more of The Planets, possibly even all of them eventually, so keep an eye out and enjoy!

Here is another classical cover and this time it's Mussorgsky (although the version I used for this cover is actually the reworking by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov). Again, this wasn't simply meant to be all the orchestral parts transposed to guitar, but rather a rearrangement so as to suit a band set up. As always I remained as true to the original structure, melody and harmony as possible.

A medley of some of my favourite moments from Ralph Vaughan Williams, comprised mostly of the Tallis Fantasia. There are many more I wanted to include (e.g something from his symphonies) but it's already ten minutes long and another medley is always possible. I am aware that he didn't write some of the source melodies, but what he did with them is nothing short of amazing.
