BRODINSKI (B.) : Hey Ateph ! What’s up dude? So, it’s clearly the first time we hear about Ateph Elidja, could you tell us more about your background and where you come from?

ATEPH ELIDJA (A.E) : Well, I started at the age of 8-9 with new style dance. I touched my first machines at 12-13, thanks to my older brothers. So I started producing at 14 on Roland’s TR-808 and MC 303. During my high school years, my first productions were mainly electronic music. At the age of 18, I got in Paris and my only belongings were my first MPC and my Hip Hop culture from Detroit and New York. Since then I started making beats under the name of Rhaft.

B. : Regardless of musical genres, how would you define your sound? Which words would characterize it?  

A.E. : For me it’s mostly Alternative Music. It’s quite underground and I use a lot of experimental technics. It’s a mix of Hip Hop and Techno, so I don’t know exactly how to call it. It can be played at 60bpm to 122bpm, on very industrial sounds.  

B. : I tend to think that BPM is a DJ concern and that people don’t really care. They don’t show up in a club wondering “are we going to dance on 110 BPM?“ (laughs). You see, the only thing that matters is how they feel your music. We are all struggling with genres: “there’s rap, there’s techno”… and Techno-Rap is really a dumb name. Journalists are going to be annoying just by calling it this way! But man, give me only 3 words to describe your music…

A.E : EMOTIONAL, FURIOUS and NERVOUS.

I ask you simply this, how many ppl were playing anything like this in early 2007?

Starts out hard then progresses into some more clubby, progressive housey beats.  This mix was made as a valentines gift for a girl I was just starting to date at the time, which explains the track selection and the vocals! :) Each track was carefully selected and had considerable meaning to the both of us in regards to our relationship at the time.  The vocal resonated our spoken and unspoken thoughts, many of the tracks were tracks we had listened to in the car on SiriusXM, or were favorites of hers.

I think It turned out really well considering I planned it out and recorded it in less than a day. I'm quite the notorious procrastinator, but work well under pressure I guess! :D
