I have always been a huge fan of many different genres of music and that's been a real blessing to me as a person but as an artist I consider it a slight curse.  Let me explain that so that it makes sense.  Personally I love many different genres of music -- some that might surprise you -- including disco, tech house, techno...and the list goes on and on and on.  You probably don't know me much for those sounds because I don't push them forward very often in my podcast sets.  What you probably know me most for is my chill and deep house sets.  I decided a good few years ago that it was important that I try as hard as I could to "brand" myself in a particular way...so as to not confuse the listeners who came upon me.  Artistry is important but branding is also extremely important.  As an artist one never wants to confuse their audience.  So...I decided to work hard to "stay in my lane" since it was one that I love passionately and consider myself to be pretty good at.  If you listen to my (Sophisticated) Morning, Deep and Chill sets you will hear direct similarities in them.  They all fit nicely together running what I call "parallel to the dance floor".  They are kind of dance floor friendly....but also kind of not.  

All that being said...I AM a child of the dance floor.  I love to dance and I love to DJ to dance floors.  That brings me to this newest podcast, Fire Island House Music 8.  Every summer I have released a Fire Island House Music set as a gift to my many listeners who love house as much as I do.  Two weeks ago I released #7 in this series and was totally blown away by the outreach from you in response to it.  I actually can't remember the last time I received response like this to a music set.  I've had phone calls, direct messages and even had people calling me through Facebook Messenger.  

House and disco house are what I mainly spin at my live performances but feeling and seeing your response to that last Fire Island House set has motivated me to start pushing more of them out via podcast. Disco Night w/ a twist

Energy is such a profound thing.  It's something that's both silent and unspoken but also always present and within our ability to control.  It's everyone's duty to be mindful of that to ensure that what we're sharing is...good and uplifting.  I keep that in mind when deciding what to share with you.  I've also wanted the energy of these mixes to walk a fine line;  perfect for both 2AM and 2PM.  Obviously what we're all doing at those two different times are very different things.  I use my own real world experiences to guide me on the music choices here.  And what I've found is that the songs you'll hear here are beautiful pieces to have in the background during the day to (subconsciously) affect our day and also have in the forefront during the night to (consciously) drive the fun.  I hope that the energy, the vibes and the messages you hear on this mix lift you up and set you free.  I have no shortage of favorites on this set.  I set the set off with the Kygo produced "Love Me Now Or Lose Me Later" -- a truly powerful heart-tugger.  From there I mix into "One Day" by Dutch emo-pop band Haevn.  They are truly one of my favorite bands ever.  Their sound is rich, authentic and emotionally powerful.  They're not really known here in the Americas so I'm really proud and fortunate to share them with you.  Find them and stream them.  They're incredible.  Otherwise, I've got 17 songs mixed here and have managed to find 5 incredible remakes for the set:  Chasing Cars (#5), You're Not Alone (#10), Sweet Disposition (#12), With Or Without You (#14) and Wonderful Life (#15).  It's so hard to find remakes that are tastefully done and keep the spirit of the original.  So I feel happy to have found these.  Pay special attention to the remake of With Or Without You by U2.  Initially I assumed this would be typically not great.  How pleasantly surprise I was to find this remake really amazing.  It's remixed by organic house master DSF.  In closing the set I chose the gorgeous "Crazy Love" by Above & Beyond featuring vocals by none other than Zoe Johnston.  By the time you reach the end of the set the *energy" will have quietly risen from chill and peaceful to powerfully melodic and progressive.  Hopefully, if I've done my job right, you'll not even notice the energy quietly rising to crescendo.  As always....this set was mixed with every ounce of love I've got to give.

Razor N Guido have always been an inspiration to me, and their records made me want to become a better producer. They were the Kings of the New York Hard House sound at the turn of the Millennium, but their musical talents went far beyond that, both collectively and individually.

I met Guido in 1999, already a fan of his and his partner Razor. Guido was more incredibly warm and genuine than I would have ever imagined, especially for someone that was creating such aggressive music. He instantly welcomed me into the New York "crew" and introduced me to everyone as a peer. He is one person in the dance music scene that I have never heard a bad thing said about. 

His talents and charming personality will be missed.

Guido of Razor N Guido Tribute Mix (Mixed By Chris Cox)

DJ Joe D'Espinosa has had a passion for discovering and sharing music since a very early age. Even as a teenager he would bring his records and turntables to parties to play music for friends. His first residencies were in the gay nightclubs of Boston in the nineties. His style has evolved over the years as tastes have evolved, and he's had many different phases to his career including having been a regular at the Pavilion on Fire Island in its nineties heyday, The Saint at Large in New York, Magnitude and Real Bad in San Francisco and countless other major event weekends on the gay party circuit around the country. 

You can regularly catch Joe in Brooklyn at House of Yes, including their epic annual Halloween event, City of Gods. He still regularly spins in New York, on Fire Island and makes occasional guest appearances on SiriusXM's Studio 54 Friday night show. His style is crafted to elicit joy and community, merging disco grooves and funky house sounds for soulful, melodic and uplifting journeys on dancefloors and in podcasts.
