Kicking 2024 off with an incredible edit on our 'X-PRESSINGS’ edit series by London-based sonic duo Beyond The Struttosphere. They're currently dominating, showcasing their considerable musical production expertise and unwavering passion for cosmic, chugging dark disco.

Their debut EP released on Gouranga Music found much acclaim among Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston’s A Love From Outer Space online fraternity, also appearing on Juan Mclean’s (DFA Records) contribution to Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space mix series.
Propelled to newfound heights, the cosmic duo have since released a number of highly lauded EPs, remixes and edits on esteemed labels and now of-course on our ‘X-PRESSINGS’ edit series.

Beyond The Struttosphere’s music has made sonic reverberations around the globe and has been remixed by notable legends of the scene including; Rebolledo, Rigopolar, Vongold, Badknife and Mufti to name a few. The cosmic cowboys have been deep in the studio recently, working on new material, with live guitar now a mainstay of their productions. Their trademark sound combines resonant chugging basslines with reverbed guitar riffs, syncopated arpeggiators, 80s-inspired synths, vintage vocal samples, Italo drum fills and psychedelic 303 sequences.

X-PRESSINGS #017: Got Another Thing Comin' (Beyond The Struttosphere Cosmic Rework)

Born In Mexico is proud to present the new edition of "Tandem". On this occasion, the guest artists are Juan Soto and Pato Watson & Le Chev. The EP includes two brilliant original tracks accompanied by remixes by Rigopolar and Dan Solo.
 
The EP begins with "The Map" by Juan Soto, a fascinating intergalactic journey where bass and drums intertwine with constant energy, while pads softly envelop the listener. Rigopolar contributes his vision in the remix of "The Map", offering a deep and lysergic version. The melted bass, reverberating voices, and enveloping synthesizers transport the listener to a sonic trance.
 
Continuing with "Head To Head" by Pato Watson and Le Chev, the EP reaches new heights of intensity. The cyclical rhythm hypnotizes while the bass and drums drive forward, immersing the listener in a sonic whirlwind of synthesizers. To close with a flourish, Dan Solo transforms "Head To Head" into a powerful psychedelic journey, maintaining an intense and captivating rhythmic base from start to finish.

The inaugural release from Malin Génie and Per Hammar, the Scania EP, is a pretty inspired-sounding offering. Seeing the light of day via Malin Génie’s self-titled label, it’s the fourth release in an increasingly essential catalogue, with this one arguably its best yet. Two producers who share a love for dub techno and hardware-produced jams, the record features three originals as well as a suitably stunning remix from Génie’s fellow Mandar member, S.A.M.

Both producers have been on a rich vein of form of late, with Swedish producer Hammar teaming up with Rossko to great effect courtesy of their debut release on Fuse sublabel, Infuse. Génie meanwhile, has been keeping busy with the label in question, with this EP marking the burgeoning label’s fourth release.

We get underway courtesy of the dub-heavy, atmospheric sounds of ‘Lijnbaan Dubb’. A smoky, atmospheric cut that features some brilliant bass kicks, this is loopy, hypnotic techno of the sort that’s also full of groove. Allowing just enough light to peek in, it’s a whimsical, colourful track that’s hard to find fault with
