I wrote this a couple years ago in remembrance of my Uncle Dean's pup. In mid-2018 I asked Twitter "What would you want to hear in a modern nocturne for piano?" and the Holly Roadfelt answered:
"A long lyrical line, a clear form, an unexpected cadenza grounded by a solid bass, colorful harmonies, interesting textures, psychological "darkness"

I sought to combine Chopin's language with the jazz language. I didn't get all of her answer in there, but do you think I got most of it?
