Tresor (German for safe or vault) is an underground techno nightclub in Berlin and a record label.

History:

The club was founded in March 1991 in the vaults of the former department store Wertheim at Leipziger Strasse 126-128 in Mitte, the central part of East Berlin, next to the Potsdamer Platz. The history of the club goes back to 1988 when the electronic music label Interfisch opened the Ufo Club in Berlin. Ufo was the original centre of Berlin house and techno, but due to financial problems that club closed in 1990.
After Ufo closed, Interfisch's head, Dimitri Hegemann, and some investors in the club found the new space in East Berlin. This was advantageous timing, as it was only a few months before Germany unified. The vaults under the Wertheim department store proved to be the perfect location for a club, and Tresor quickly became the place to be in Berlin. Tresor continued to be a popular club, having expanded and reconstructed continuously several times to include an outdoor garden area, and a second "Globus" floor. The Tresor floor in the basement was reserved specifically for hard techno, industrial and acid music, while Globus was featured mainly more mellow house sound. The record label Tresor Records was founded soon after the club first opened, in October 1991. Featured artists on the label include Jeff Mills, Blake Baxter, Juan Atkins, Robert Hood, Drexciya, Stewart Walker, Joey Beltram, DJ Surgeon, Pacou, Cristian Vogel and many others.
In 2004 the documentary "Tresor Berlin: The Vault & the Electronic Frontier" was released. Directed by Mike Andrawis, it features interviews with Hegemann, Carola Stoiber, and DJs & artists associated with the club & label. The film covers the period from Hegemann's involvement with the Fishladen and UFO clubs in Berlin-Kreuzberg to the final months prior to Tresor's closure.
Tresor closed on 16 April 2005, after several years' prolonged short-term rent. The city sold the land to an investor group to build offices on the Leipziger Straße location. It was open for each night of April 2005, with the final event starting the Saturday night with queues stretching all the way down the road, and still going Monday morning.
Tresor reopened on 24 May 2007 in the decommissioned southern tract of the combined heat and power plant Heizkraftwerk Berlin-Mitte in Köpenicker Straße. 
Since November 2019 the club has a subsidiary in the city of Dortmund called Tresor.West. 
In September 2022, Tresor published a photobook, Tresor: True Stories, to document the past 30 years of its history.

Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Clarisa Kimskii has cemented her musical footprint on the borough since moving back in 2022. Through a palpable blend of psychedelic and driving techno, Clarisa’s approach to the genre is deeply idiosyncratic - an assemblage of both timeless and modern grooves. 
As a producer, Clarisa has contributed to a handful of respected labels (Monday Off, Dusk & Haze, Mysteries of the Deep, etc.) within her sonic niche, but it’s through her own label L.A.G where the ethos of her sound truly takes form - a detailed variation of propulsive and atmospheric soundscapes. 
Clarisa is deeply rooted in the techno subculture’s underground, and in early 2022 - the 20+ year veteran was named resident DJ of the Brooklyn-based, queer party Merge. Through her residency at Merge and regular appearances at the city’s premiere institutions in BASEMENT and Nowadays, Clarisa’s prestige is undeniably felt.

Set the Mood with Dan Berg!

This week, I've invited Dan Berg to contribute an opening set for the Set the Mood series. Dan Berg delivered an excellent track selections and layered craftsmanship. As a passionate DJ and producer, Dan isn’t afraid to explore extremes, but his real fascination lies in the nuances that emerge in between. His pursuit of perfect balance often leads to the most intriguing results.

For Dan Berg, a perfect opening set is one that creates the ideal atmosphere for the night ahead. It allows him to showcase his unique style while leaving ample space for the next DJ to build upon. The balance depends heavily on the lineup and timetable. Sometimes there’s room to play with more intensity; other times, a subtler approach is necessary. At the start of the evening, it’s essential to entice people onto the dancefloor, gradually challenging them to stay captivated by the evolving energy of the music.

Dan Berg describes his style as something between hypnotic dark groove and unpolished hard techno. While difficult to pin down precisely, he simplifies it by positioning himself in that in-between space. He enjoys emphasizing percussion and prefers to follow the energy of the music and the evening rather than locking himself into a specific genre.

When asked who he’d most like to open for, Dan mentions Oscar Mulero. He feels a deep understanding of Mulero’s style and would consider it a tremendous honor, given the immense respect he holds for the artist.

It's our pleasure and honor to present this week's Global Vibe Radio mix, featuring Los Angeles techno flag-bearer Truncate.

Established in early 2011, Truncate is the raw, deep, jackin techno and house project of David Flores, who is also widely known for his productions as Audio Injection

After being introduced to electronic music back as a teenager in the early '90s in Los Angeles, Flores was hooked. He started DJing across Southern California on the DIY warehouse, backyard, desert, and rave circuit. 

After a few years solely DJing, he began releasing original music under the monikers David F and Audio Injection, which landed him on labels such as Monoid, Stimulus, 4 Track & LA label Droid Recordings. His association with Droid Behavior began in 2003 as a resident at the now defunct yet infamous and internationally acclaimed Interface event series alongside Drumcell and Raiz. He currently runs a new event series together with Drumcell and Oktaform named “Observe”.

His Truncate releases early on gained critical acclaim from world class underground talent such as Modeselektor, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Chris Liebing, Speedy J, DVS1, Luke Slater, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Eats Everything, Joris Voorn, and many more. Since then, he has provided remixes for artists across the musical spectrum including Kink, Slam, Loco Dice, Ben Sims, Josh Wink, Ellen Alien, Miss Kittin, Carl Cox & Nicole Moudaber. He has also released original works on 50 Weapons, Ultramajic, Blueprint, Ei8ht, Figure and of course his own imprint Truncate. He has also collaborated with Jimmy Edgar, Chambray and most recently started a new project with Ben Sims as ‘Assailants’ which they’ve released on their own imprint ‘Obscurity Is Infinite’.

A rigorous international tour schedule has since followed, including stops and regular appearances at the most prestigious venues and events, including Berghain in Berlin, Fabric in London, Concrete in Paris, The Movement Festival in Detroit, Womb in Tokyo, Dimensions Festival in Croatia, Awakenings in Amsterdam, Output in New York, and many more.

Joel Mull's career spans over three decades. With a background studying classical music, singing in choirs and playing in bands, Joel found electronic music at a young age as a source of freedom. His first experience came from DJ’ing in the chill-out areas of rave parties in his native Stockholm during the early 90’s.
With his roots from Germany, Hamburg, he moved to the city in 1994, and worked as a resident DJ for 3 years at one of the biggest techno clubs in Germany, Unit Club. This was an important period for him and as a DJ; It taught him how to control the energy of the night on the dance floor, from warm up sets to 10h marathon sets.

With releases on music labels worldwide along with Cari Lekebusch, Robert Leiner, Adam Beyer and Jesper Dahlbäck he counts to the first wave of Swedish techno producer who became known around the world as the "Swedish techno sound".
He has produced over 100 releases and under various names such as Icarus, Gotzkowsky and most recent under his alias Damm.
He often refers to himself and his craft as a sound architect, and if you’ve ever experienced his club sets, you’ll understand why.
Under his ambient and electronica alias Damm, Joel revives one of his earliest aliases and expands upon this discipline even further.
