@risataniguchi is a Tokyo born and based artist. She has spent the last four years cultivating a lo-fi sound of distorted textures, fizzing synths and a quietly burning energy, which consumes all who hear it. Preferring to play sets which are catered to the late hours, Risa has a knack for getting crowds in a nocturnal trance, before delivering shocks and surprises with a curious motif or unpredictable element. For those who like to cut loose in a dark environment, she is the perfect selector.

In the studio as well as the club, Risa focuses on the drums, programming kicks that bring visceral and often aggressive thrills next to a uniquely addictive layer of well-designed snares and hi-hats. Her signature has become her own subtle and intriguing vocal samples, best heard on Slipped My Mind and Enclozed. She adds layers of acid bass and an always raw aesthetic.

Welcome to DRR Podcast 089, for our first episode of the week we welcome Jay Denham, from Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.

Jay Denham is the second generation Detroit techno pioneer - musician, dj artist and producer from Kalamazoo, Michigan - city right in the middle between Chicago and Detroit. His style is a unique blend of these two worlds - Chicago house and Detroit techno, with a Kalamazoo touch. He stays true to the underground, makes the music for the art of it and always remembers where he comes from.

In 1992, Jay Denham struck out on his own. He founded Black Nation Records and launched it with his seminal "Birth of a Nation" E.P. (allusion to the infamous and subversive Ku Klux Klan propaganda film of the same title), featuring tracks by Denham himself and as well as his colleagues - Fanon Flowers, Tony Ollie, Brett Dancer, and Chance McDermott. Black Nation's philosophy: driving underground grooves for the funk-conscious record buyer.

With the success of Black Nation relentless releases of pure Detroit techno, Jay was able to refine his sound to what he describes as the funky techno sound.

Ed Davenport also known as Inland is a british DJ, Producer and founder of the Counterchange Recordings label based in Berlin. As Inland today his busy output stands for purist and inherently progressive rhythmic work, grounded in the romantic traditions of early techno yet driven by a constant search for new ground, textures and studio-techniques.

The last few years have been very eventful for Ed. He has been successfully running his label and expanding the catalogue with excellent contributions from known and unknown talent, as well as travelling around the world to play music, while he has been also getting in touch with the contemporary art world more by collaborating with different artists for various art projects, which have been exhibited around Europe. Some highlights of Ed’s dedicated hard work include the release of his outstanding debut album ''An Invitation To Disappear'' in collaboration with swiss artist Julian Charrière on Ostgut Ton's sub label A-TON, and the release of a massive VA  compilation record on his very own Counterchange label featuring artist such as Efdemin, Peter van Hoesen, BNJMN, Joel Mull, Distant Echoes and many more! 

The latest project of Inland is a series of events called Arch, which are very cozy and special nights at Prince Charles in Berlin dedicated to live electronics, electro-acoustic and experimental concerts. After a successful first edition of Arch featuring BNJMN, Pornceptual resident Jamaica Suk and a stunning b2b performance of Inland himself together with film music composer John Guetler, Ed continued to invite inspiring artists such as Magna Pia, Mattheis and coming up next are Perm, Johanna Knutsson, Fred Mann and Amandra. Do not miss to experience Arch if you are a true fan of electronic music in all of its facets.

To us, Ed will always hold a special place in our hearts, not only because we have always had deep respect for his work, but also because he was one of the first to believe in our concept and be part of the first Nachtblumen experience back in 2018. Now, two years later, we are happy to be hosting Ed for our 3rd birthday with a special contribution to our podcast series. For those of you who truly know Ed as an artist, you will know that he is quite versatile in his music taste and expression, and for those who don’t you are in for a treat. Today we give you a warm start into the new season with a heartful rhythmic set by an artist who can easily find a place in your heart after experiencing their music and vibe.

Joel Mull's career spans over three decades. With a background studying classical music, singing in choirs and playing in bands, Joel found electronic music at a young age as a source of freedom. His first experience came from DJ’ing in the chill-out areas of rave parties in his native Stockholm during the early 90’s.
With his roots from Germany, Hamburg, he moved to the city in 1994, and worked as a resident DJ for 3 years at one of the biggest techno clubs in Germany, Unit Club. This was an important period for him and as a DJ; It taught him how to control the energy of the night on the dance floor, from warm up sets to 10h marathon sets.

With releases on music labels worldwide along with Cari Lekebusch, Robert Leiner, Adam Beyer and Jesper Dahlbäck he counts to the first wave of Swedish techno producer who became known around the world as the "Swedish techno sound".
He has produced over 100 releases and under various names such as Icarus, Gotzkowsky and most recent under his alias Damm.
He often refers to himself and his craft as a sound architect, and if you’ve ever experienced his club sets, you’ll understand why.
Under his ambient and electronica alias Damm, Joel revives one of his earliest aliases and expands upon this discipline even further.
