“Gallows” is our third solo EP for Artikal Music, and was written over mid-2020 as an intended collection of 140bpm tracks with varied styles, themes and sound palettes, which would still gel together in EP form. The track that got the ball rolling was the title track, “Gallows” a link-up with PAV4N, in which we explored some of the more melodic, experimental corner of our sound for the instrumental, which is beautifully contrasted by Pav’s aggressive and intense delivery, and his lyrics which serve as an observation on political and government hierarchies. The second track, “Understand”, is a more dark, dub-focused outing, with chunky elements and bass that are built for sound system playback. Building this one was really fun, allowing us to dig for drums and elements that we don’t typically use to create a more grungy experience. Track three, “Blinded”, goes darker still, enlisting regular collaborator Jack Flynn-Oakley, who we love working with, to write something with pure, crushing impact and a level of anxiety that increases steadily throughout the track. There’s no dance that this one hasn’t shelled down yet. The final track, “Inner Sanctum”, was the last track to be finished for the release and is a track we’ve been keeping locked down for a while now. It’s an off-kilter mix of wailing vocal cuts, cold bass movement, and percussion that’s bursting with character. 

We’re stoked to be back on Artikal, and we hope you guys enjoy the sounds this time around.

A long term veteran of the Dub Techno scene Mueller's music never fails to leave a mark on its listener. Evoking otherworldly textures and ambience whilst conveying emotion through melodic baseline and synth work, he has an outstanding discography reaching back to the early 2000's and in our opinion this is some of his best work to date. 

'Groundworks' is an album compiled of 9 tracks, each made with a forward thinking concept in mind from Joerg. Pushing his new style of production for this project whilst also connecting back to his dub/bass orientated roots.

Kerstin Saidykhan aka Sai is a music nerd since her teens, influenced by many such as postpunk, dark wave through ska, jungle, dnb and techno. Her interest in electronic music began in the mid-90s during her social work studies, which led to her writing her thesis on Techno Culture in Germany. Dancehall and Jamaican Soundsystem culture were also a big influence on her, after she visited Jamaica twice in the late 90s. She moved to Berlin in 2001 and came into contact with the rhythm and sound vibe that immediately resonated with her. she. Sai loves creating deep atmospheric mixes around dub techno, deep house, often seasoned with some broken beats or other experimental electronic stuff. At the center of it all is the attraction of the dub scene in general, which she likes to examine in all its facets and potentials.

“Reverie” portrays fragments of a memory of a penurious old lady who once lived beneath the watchtower, in an abandoned house with her cow. She was enslaved and mistreated by her siblings after her husband passed away a few years back. She led a life of misery and loneliness, but one cannot help but wondering about her past life and hoping that sometime in earlier years, she was happy and enjoying her days.

This is a tribute to this random human being whose life didn’t matter and whose memory is fading over the years. It’s a celebration of her life and a fiction of what could it be.

joergmueller - memory mix

joergmueller from Cologne in Germany is producing electronic music under this moniker since 2002 after working with a friend on two different balearic house / chill-out projects (VILA and Stepahne de Lucia) since 1998. His solo career was a journey from discovering the musical heritage of his hometown, producing techno music inspired by Traum, Kompakt, Areal and other Cologne based labels to a more bass-rooted, reggae-infused mixture of dub, techno and downtempo beats. His music is defined by deep rhythmic kick and bass stuctures with layers of original tape echo effects and tricky use of vocal samples. After a netlabel release of “Hexa” on Comatronic in 2005 his first album “mjiu” was released on Quantec’s label Shoreless Recordings in 2009 follwed by the EP on the french dub techno imprint ZeECc called “peel and dub in half”. His first full length album “Heavy Heart” was also released on ZeECc as a limited CD edition and is now being re-issued on Cold Tear Records. There is also a remix album of heavy heart, with versions from heavyweight artists like Adam Kroll, Salz, Fingers in the Noise and many more. 
After a longer period he returned in 2018 with an album on Berlin based label roHs! where he stretches out more towards slowly evolving ambient pieces.
