Joey Fehrenbach and Xspance join us for a series of releases ahead of their album release in October. First up, 'Escape' with remixes from label favorites, Audioglider and Drew Miller. 

Long time studio partners, this release is the culmination of a collaboration that began with a chance encounter on a release from 2016, since then the pair have worked on many projects but it was their forthcoming album, which began life over 2 years ago that represents some of their most accomplished work. 

As they say in their own words, "We're just two guys an ocean apart, but with one thing in common: the passion and love of electronic music." Presented here are both the album version and a bonus orchestral remix as well as reinterpretations from Audioglider and Drew Miller.

The track is called 'Parting Ways', and is set to a video sequence by the awesome Maxime Causeret, telling the story of creation via endless division. 

It's the first time I've made a live improvised piece of music, it gives it a different feel, less precise arrangement, constant patch morphing and more flow. Something to get lost in hopefully. Myself on synths, Six Sigma on bassline, and Adam Betts on drums. I added some detailing later and the big retro snare etc, but the core synth and basslines that run throughout came from that initial jam session.

The new album project is full of scores to infinite visualisations, so it needed some spacey synth noodlings to match. I hope you enjoy it.

Parting Ways (with Six Sigma)

Remix by Ryan Davis for the track "14", taken from Janus Rasmussen's debut album "Vín".

Janus Rasmussen, one half of the critically acclaimed minimal techno duo KIASMOS, is releasing two remix EPs with tracks from Vin reinterpreted by five electronic music artists: Ryan Davis, Aparde, Delhia de France, Joseph Ashworth, Aleksandir and Olaf Stuut. Alongside acclaimed pianist and producer Ólafur Arnalds as KIASMOS, Janus Rasmussen has performed at the most esteemed festivals in the world such as INASOUND, Lowlands, Paraíso, BIME, Mad Cool, and Lovebox where they shared the stage alongside some of the most prominent artists in the world including Alesso, Foo Fighters, Major Lazer, Muse, Lana Del Rey, M83, alt-J, Black Coffee, Bonobo, Gorillaz, and Dua Lipa just to name a few. Having toured the world over, they’re music currently has more than 59 million streams on Spotify and has gained more than 13 million views on Youtube. Janus Rasmussen is not only part of Kiasmos, but also forms part of the electro-pop quartet Bloodgroup who has since become one of Iceland’s hottest musical exports.

Growing up, he was influenced by 80’s British pop like Depeche Mode and New Order; while you can hear the melodic elements of their work in his, he’s gone in a whole different direction with this new chillout release. He thinks like a great cinematographer, with moving melodic lines and layers of innovative sounds presenting a vivid story. Sometimes the songs sound like a movie soundtrack.

Joey comes from a long line of professional musicians including aunts and uncles who played for everything from symphonies to commercial jingles. He’s been writing music since he was thirteen and for the past twenty, he’s produced electronic music, starting with an old Mac Plus and a few old analog keyboards and an 8-bit sampler. For nine years he recorded dance tracks under the name Dream Traveler. One of his songs,” Time,” appeared on Paul Oakenfold’s Transport CD, one of the highest selling dance compilations of all time.

In 2006 he switched direction and started using his real name. “I wanted a more personal connection to the listener and the only name I could put on it was my own. Band names tend to mask the artist’s identity. There’s nothing more intrinsic than putting your real name on an album, and there’s nothing more personal than writing the most emotional music you can to express to others who you really are.” His goal was to eliminate boundaries and write emotionally charged, melodic music. He even self-released his first album on his own record label to avoid any outside influence.

His music has been used on TV shows like Steven Seagal: Lawman, History Detectives, and Earth 2100: ABC Special Report. Two of his songs, “Behold” and “Being Around You,” were included on Nick Warren’s Global Underground – Paris compilation.

His earlier release, Mellowdrama, topped downtempo and chillout radio charts and sold record numbers over the past four years. Before that, as Dream Traveler, he released numerous dance singles and remixes that became dance floor favorites, played by DJs including John Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, and Scott Stubbs.

Joey continues to produce electronic music for Delicate Recordings and has just released a new remix package entitled Everything Is Alright.
