Joey Alkes is a co-author, with Peter Case and Chris Fradkin, of the classic 80s power pop anthem from the films Speed and Valley Girl. Alkes & Mick Mcmains created the DJ Monkey acclaimed fusion albums Another Evolution & 3rd World War. 
the Plimsouls’ “Million Miles Away;” also recorded by acts such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Ingram Hill, Kids Incorporated (w/ Fergie & Martika). He also co-authored a number of other Plimsoul tunes including “Now”, “Lost Time” “Hypnotized” and “Hush, Hush; along with “The Sphinx” performed by English music pioneer Alexis Korner, Paul Collins & the Beat’s “All Over the World,” 
Phil Seymour’s “Talk to Me,” Jim Basnight’s “Blue Moon Heart.” 

In recent years, Alkes is best known as one of the front men in the award winning and critically acclaimed spoken word act DJ Monkey; best known for such music videos as “U-Boat,” “Beatnik,” “God is an Underachiever,” and their two album releases Another Evolution and 3rd World War

Alkes has been a writer and columnist for such media outlets as the Pasadena Weekly, LA X…Press, and Venice Magazine, among the many indie papers he has written for in his 30 years in Los Angeles.

Prior to his music career taking precedence, he also authored two poetry chapbooks: In The Face of All That is Apparent, Black Ace-Bowery 1975 which had been found for auction among the possessions of William Burroughs; and Cold Moon Over Denver, Fast Co 1976.

Currently his work can be found in the poetry anthology Men in the Company of Women (Edgar & Lenore Publishing) and an audio version of “Why in the Hell Did Tom Waits Steal My 15-Year Old Buick Last Week?” in the archives of Rick Lupert’s Poetry Super Highway.
