With Halloween soon upon us and all the creepy fun that it entails, we wanted to do something a little different from the usual ghouls, goblins and ghosts for this year’s fun. Nat had this idea to have a play with the great pop song David Bowie wrote and made famous in 1969. A song that speaks perhaps to drug addiction as much as anything to do with the vast and gloriously scary expanse of outer space, we tried to put our own Daniels & Durgy spin on it. Though generally in line with Bowie’s fantastic composition, we made some subtle changes to introduce a little love interest to the picture...does his wife actually work as one of the Ground Controllers?! Enjoy the journey and Happy Halloween everyone!

Space Oddity (Bowie cover)

This song has always depressed the bejesus out of me, but I really love it.  Wonderful story about how it was written, Henry Gross was visiting Carl Wilson only to find they both had a dog named Shannon.  Henry wrote this one thinking what it would be like to lose his dog.  Inspired by Carl's Shannon though.

The Beatles were a profound influence on so many of us that grew up during the 60’s, musically, culturally and emotionally. The frenzy they stirred while somehow mostly evoking a certain playful joy will never cease to touch my memories of growing up with hope and enthusiasm. This song covers one of their beautiful old-school ballads, written by John Lennon, and providing a bit of a contrast to their signature rocking hits. It was released in 1963 as a single that ended up on their 1964 album, “Meet The Beatles”. I’ve always loved how it pulled together a bit of the 50’s slow-dance beauty with John’s emotive vocal delivery and the groups tight harmonies and overall Beatles vibe. Happily, Nat was glad to give this cover a go as we revved it up with a somewhat country-bluegrass feel while trying to hold onto some of that Fab 4 charm.
