i did an advent calendar event on battle of the bits this month: every day for 24 days, there was a new format (usually for music, chiptune or other restriction; sometimes visual art) + a prompt, and you could submit something only on that day... i got to try a bunch of new stuff and had much fun! here are the 19 songs that resulted.

this is a cover of Yoko Kanno's "Modern Life" from turn a gundam. using mostly super mario rpg samples (the low piano sound is from ffv). it started out 8 note polyphony but a lot of clicking noises ensue when c700 is restrained to that so i increased the amount. da amount of notes clicked at the same time should b 8 max though. idk why i care so much about it. it's so late.

unfinished thing i made on my steam deck lol

❄️ An instrumental cover of the hymn In the Bleak Midwinter ("Cranham") by Gustav Holst. I put a rompler-heavy spin on it, inspired by the music of Bill Wurtz! ❄️ ♫

While making this, I was picturing the scene of a kid receiving a little old Casio keyboard for Christmas in the 2000s and trying out all the sounds. The majority of sounds I used are from the Roland Sound Canvas VST, some are from the Korg M1 VST, and others are soundfonts. I had a lot of fun with production stuff like reverb, bitcrushing, mid/side EQ, compression and panning on this one!
