I wrote 'FAUVE' between August, 2014 and January, 2015. The piece, which is a pseudo-concerto for rock band, is in four movements and represents my love of Messiaen, Meshuggah, and everything in between. The title 'FAUVE' is both a homage to the band's original name and a comparison between the polystylism of the piece with the wildly contrasting colors characteristic of Fauvism. Between polyrhythmic grooves, improvisatory sections, and musical jokes, the piece is an attempt to achieve an original take on the fusion of contemporary classical music with rock/metal without taking itself too seriously.
