Tracktober is my monthlong challenge: one track every day for 31 days. These are sketches, not polished releases—raw ideas, experiments, and sonic explorations. Think of this playlist as my musical sketchbook: messy at times, surprising at others, and maybe a LITTLE bit spooky, but always something fun.

Tracktober! (Unfinished Sketches)

Tracktober 001: “Starkissed" — Deep House in G# Major, 120BPM

Part of my Tracktober challenge 🎃 — every day this month I’m writing and posting a track sketch. These are works-in-progress (WIP), not finished mixes (I only put max 2 hours into each one!) — the goal is to practice showing up daily, experiment with new ideas, and share the creative process openly instead of waiting until everything is “perfect.”

• Concept: First track of the month! started with a basic drum loop and some factory presets on Serum and went from there!
• What I practiced: Getting back in the swing of things, track structures, transitions
• Key software used: Ableton Live 12, Serum
• Imperfections: Drums don’t feel right and are a bit too high energy. Build and drop could be more dramatic.
• Influences: The last levels I used to play in Paper Mario growing up

Tracktober 002: “Dr. Strawberries and Cream” — Funky Nudisco in D Minor 123BPM

Day 2 of my Tracktober challenge 🎃 — every day this month I’m writing and posting a track sketch. These are works-in-progress (WIP), not finished mixes (I only put max 2 hours into each one!) — the goal is to practice showing up daily, experiment with new ideas, and share the creative process openly instead of waiting until everything is “perfect.”

• Concept: Start with a fun bass line and buiid from there (instead of drums)
• What I practiced: Melodic and harmonic composition. How to improvise and build melodies and harmonies. I also tinkered with the Arturia instrument plugin and made my synths a bit warmer sounding 
• Imperfections: The highs sound way overbalanced to me (which is sort of OK because the mixing isn’t done!), and i wish i had more time to elaborate on the melodies with runs and fun stuff. It definitely has legs as a dance track, and I think more time could definitely put it there.
• Influences: No joke? Carly Rae's Loneliest Time and intros to Kim Petras and Dua Lipa tracks...DON’T DRAG ME!

Tracktober 003: “Tim's Acid Spa —  Acid Rock Techno? in D Minor 122 BPM
(name after Tim, the Tracktober bat!)

Day 3 of my Tracktober challenge 🎃 — every day this month I’m writing and posting a track sketch. These are works-in-progress (WIP), not finished mixes (I only put max 2 hours into each one!) — the goal is to practice showing up daily, experiment with new ideas, and share the creative process openly instead of waiting until everything is “perfect.”

• Concept: Start with an instrumental sample and build out a track from there
• What I practiced: Playing with samples and portions to find fun sections, modulation, acid synths (Arturia Acid V), Simpler
• Imperfections: Definitely have some stray frequencies in the sample that need treatment, and I ran out of time to make the magic happen with a sufficient build. Can't wait to finish this later somehow.  
• Influences: Dr. Rubenstein! I love that you make acid so much fun.

Tracktober 016: Für Willy in A minor at 72 BPM

Day 16 of my Tracktober challenge 🎃 — every day this month I’m writing and posting a track sketch. These are works-in-progress (WIP), not finished mixes (I only put max 2 hours into each one!) — the goal is to practice showing up daily, experiment with new ideas, and share the creative process openly instead of waiting until everything is “perfect.”

• Concept: Do something nice and slow….I decided to try Fur Elise and ended up throwing in WIlly Wonka too! 
• What I practiced: Composition, MIDI sourcing/modification, Transitions/Different Moods, Slow vibes 
• Imperfections: Lots of opportunities exist including bass lines, adding more space, etc. Lots of percussion could make this fire. 
• Influences: Halloween Movies! THis one is SPOOKY

Joey with the Mustache is a New York-based DJ and producer. He crafts exceptionally happy house, disco, and electronic music. Joey can be found playing in top NYC nightclubs, the queer haven of Fire Island Pines, and around the USA (Burning Man, Chicago Market Days, Halloween New Orleans). Joey also tours internationally with recent stops in Sydney, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Mexico City, and more!
