Assorted Trance Volume 37 (2024) *Neotrance, Acid Trance, Hi-Tek*

Athens based artists Erikos A and Greg S make up All Species and here they debut on Bonzai Progressive with the sublime progressive breaks of Equinox. Erikos and Greg got into music from a very young age, in the nineties they became hooked on electronic music enjoying various genres like downtempo, chill out and all manner of electronic dance rhythms. They have created their own style that combines nostalgic spacey sounds with live performance acoustic instruments. In 2005 they started to make music together while enjoying the benefits of their friendship and sharing their creativity to find new ways of creating sounds.

Equinox gets us on the move with a fantastic pacey breakbeat that carries a subtle drum n bass kinda groove. The tight drum patterns deliver the goodness and will certainly get feet on the floors with their solid rhythms. The track also generates a beautifully musical vibe with a myriad of synths and effects garnering a rich tapestry of sound with a progressive edge. A wonderful slice here that will be a welcome addition to any collection.

Planet Groove is an epic trek into progressive breaks with a wonderfully diverse arrangement of sounds that captivate the mind. The intro boasts some very nice synths that stay the course before being joined by fantastic beats that carry a fine flowing rhythm. Slick percussions and pumping breakbeats is where it's at here and combined with progressive elements makes for some very interesting patterns. At the midway point the track goes four to the floor with a punchy kick drum taking the lead alongside a superb warm bassline and sublime synths and FX. An outstanding hybrid track that will generate a lot of interest no doubt.

Time Machine takes us deep into the groove with a wonderful composition made up of psychedelic arps and expertly crafted FX that add beautiful textures to the sound. At its heart we find a throbbing bass that offers a warming sensation as it transcends through the sound. The drum section is simply stunning, it delivers a solid groove with intricate patterns made up of shuffling hats and a driving kick drum that blend perfectly into a fine arrangement. Another superbly constructed slice from this talented duo that will certainly not go amiss.

Equinox

Musical genius Airwave returns to Bonzai Progressive for 2017 with the delectable Amber Sky which comes backed up with two top notch remixes. As always we're blown away by this guy's brilliance, he manages to bring that WOW factor to everything he touches, his productions remain consistently of a very high standard which will continue for a very long time. 2016 was another big year for Laurent Veronnez, he ramped up his DJ profile with gigs all over the world and solidifying his stance among his army of fans. His last outing Pray For Happiness on JOOF Recordings gained a lot of support and we've no doubt that this one will follow suit.

Amber Sky delivers a beautifully constructed simplistic track that packs a massive punch. Airwave's trademark pumping kick drums lead the charge before a deep and lush rumbling bassline enters to the backdrop of mysterious layered FX. An intensity creeps in as the track builds while a calming pad fills the background. The lead melody comes through and marries perfectly to the changing notes of the bassline. The break dishes out a wonderful soundscape filled with rich pads and droning bass that fade off leaving a tempo increasing build up before slamming right back into the main track for the duration. Superb stuff that will not disappoint.

Basil O'Glue aka Greek DJ and producer Haris Vasiloglou is up first on remix duties and, after appearing on a few compilations for us in the past, this one marks his Bonzai Progressive debut. Having honed his musical taste through listening to many different styles he discovered that he had a penchant for electronic music. Through hard work and devotion he started to produce his own music and he found himself releasing on labels such as Coldharbour, Saturate Audio, Afterglow and Armada to name just a few. The remix intros with a proper oldskool progressive vibe that offers a deep warmth to the sound as throbbing bassline makes its way through. Beautifully crafted FX and a tight drum arrangement deliver a solid rhythm while floating subtle melodies come in. We are soon embroiled in a more contemporary euphoric sound as wide pads and big synths are introduced. A seriously banging track that is a definite must have.

Jamie Baggotts returns with another top notch remix. His last effort was on remix duties for Platunoff's Primavera which proved popular among many. With a slew of top quality cuts under his belt here at BP, Jamie is establishing himself as a solid artist and very much in demand. Lots more to come from this guy no doubt so keep an eye and an ear on him. On the remix here we set off with huge pounding kick drums accompanied by crispy hats and a bubbling bassline. In the background mysterious pads shimmer as an intensity starts to build. The bassline transforms into a powerful rolling pattern while melodic synths fade in. The break offers a short respite where we're treated to a beautiful array of sounds that contrast between the low and high frequencies before slamming back into full on mode. Not to be missed.

Amber Sky

Amber Sky (Jamie Baggotts Remix)

Phi6 aka producer duo Inaki Albert and Oswaldo Garrido debut on Bonzai Progressive with the superb three track EP entitled Tripezones. The guys joined forces while studying a sound degree and are Influenced by artists such as Hans Zimmer, Trentemoller and Mendieta to name just a few. While Inaki already boasts several releases on various labels, Oswaldo is a relative newcomer to the scene. One thing is for sure though, these guys have a serious talent that will most definitely grab a lot of attention. Delighted to have them on board and hopefully we'll see more from them soon.

Tripezones is up first and dishes out a solid progressive flavour with trappings of techno blended in. This one embarks on a hybrid journey filled with quality vibes and infectious grooves that will captivate the mind. Chunky kick drums and a tight percussion section ensure the rhythm prevails while deep basses lurk on the low end. Energetically charged synths mesmerize while the bassline chugs, driving the groove. A real beauty of a track that will give you the perfect weapon for any set.

Next we have Toob which is quite simply a stomper of a track. The intro boasts a pounding kick drum with a surreal atmospheric pad hanging in the background. The rhythm is let loose with the introduction of tight percussion patterns and shuffling hats. A hypnotic bass dominates the track for the duration and keeps this one firmly in the dark zone making this a definite must have.

Corp rounds up this superb pack and does so in epic style. Progressive vibes ooze out of this one right from the get go as punchy kick drums lead the way alongside a plucky synth hit and building percussion patterns. Deep droning bassy pads lurk in the background while bright crispy hats slice through. You can feel the tension rising as synth chords stab their way into the sound creating wonderfully layered textures. The break serves up an expertly crafted sequence filled with lush sounds and some funky elements to tip the balance. Superb stuff that is not to be missed.

Hi! My name is Johan and this is where I post my various mixes. I've been DJ-ing since 1997 and am Senior Curation Director at DI.FM (www.di.fm). I've been doing these mixes since early 2000 and they feature whatever the heck I'm into atm but usually it's some sort of current Techno, Acid Techno, Progressive House, Hard Trance OR retrospectives about various labels and artists from the 90s.
