Burning Out is Natascha Polké’s most delicate yet confronting tune. Starting off sparsely, her voice finds its way under your skin instantly. Warm chimes effortlessly lead the way and tie in simmering synth pads that keep building steadily. Spinning in melancholy this production has its own mind, grows at its own pace and takes just the right amount of time to do so. Come the second verse, lush and subtle vocal harmonies find their way in naturally, producing a purposeful momentum before the first chorus kicks in, with a beat that starts to drive things forward. But even when the track is lead by the refreshingly decisive groove, an air of melancholy underpins every move and motion. Wonderful organic samples give this track a strong sense of identity, the balance between a fleeting chilling atmosphere and intimate honesty makes it a roll out to which you’ll want to surrender.

Handpicked by curators Jody Wisternoff & James Grant, the Anjunadeep 13 Sampler hosts 6 highlights from the compilation, featuring Westseven & Ross Farren, Bantwanas, Oliver Wickham, Cornelius SA, Hessian and Simon Shackleton.

Following his debut on Ajnunandeep Explorations 06, Malaysian producer Westseven pairs up with Ross Farren in ‘Muse Of Mine’, the opening track on this year’s Sampler. 

South African collective Bantwanas return to the label with their track ‘Inthombi’, featuring vocals from Noni Jali. Following their Anjunadeep debut ‘Dignane’, the collective have been supported on BBC Radio 1, KCRW and Kiss FM. 

Next up is Canadian producer Oliver Wickham with his track ‘World Away’. Oliver first debuted on Anjunadeep with his collaborative cut ‘Dear Ben’ in 2020 and has since gone on to release his track ‘Indigo’ on the label in 2021. 

Based in South Africa, Cornelius marks a bold return to Anjunadeep with ‘Soaring, following his debut on Anjunadeep Explorations 18’. Leading with delicate melodies and perucsive laden grooves, Cornelius demonstrates why he’s released on labels including DAYS like NIGHTS and mau5trap.

Bristol based producer Hessian is next on the Sampler with his track ‘Rain’. Anchoring on pulsing strings and a warm bass, Hessian showcases his intricate sound design, utilising nature recordings in the build-up. 

Closing out the EP is a fresh remix of Simon Shackleton ‘Traumstaat’ from Jody and James. Leading with the original emotive string lead, the duo add soft synths and a rhythmic drumbeat to the track.

**THE STORY**

At the dawn of the 19th century, a shadow is cast upon the Scottish shores of Loch Sìne. 

Childhood companions Isla and Struan, bound by the sea and an unspoken promise, are torn from each other's lives. Pressured by duty, Struan joins the British Navy, leaving Isla with a precious gift and a vow to return. But the years apart bring many changes - both at home and at sea.

As Struan is set to return, a rot has taken hold in the village. The men have grown weak, their traditions abandoned, and their leaders corrupted. From across the waves, Isla, gifted with second sight, witnesses a horrifying vision: an unholy force attacking Struan's fleet.

Her warnings to the men of the village are ignored. Despite a storm, Isla takes to her boat in a desperate search for Struan, who she senses is fighting a losing battle.
Now, as the demonic tide finally crashes ashore, their childhood promise becomes an epic quest.

Life in Cologne is colourful, diverse and open to new things. That's why the electronic artist Johann Gitters decided many years ago to start his music career here. Growing up with the beats of the 90s, he has now been producing music in the form of a mixture of melodic house and deep house for almost 20 years. The trend goes back to consume melancholic, driving, but also warm analogue sounds at the same time. That's exactly what Johann Gitters sounds like. 

Influenced by a strict piano teacher, he recognises and uses harmonies and compositions of sounds that make his music unique. He is inspired by artists such as Paul Kalkbrenner (always!), Matthew Herbert, Acid Pauli, Boris Brejcha, Marek Hemmann. 

The artist is currently working on live sets, for which he has only been able to get enthusiastic about in recent years, and new EPs. In doing so, he is increasingly practising vocals to give the whole thing more depth. His sets, which are in the minimal/electronic range, are supplemented by his own tracks when they are played.
