Disorganized schizophrenia, also referred to as hebephrenic schizophrenia or hebephrenia (based on the Greek term for adolescence), was a subtype of schizophrenia previously recognized in the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV).

The DSM-IV included five subtypes of schizophrenia, including disorganized, paranoid, catatonic, undifferentiated, and residual. The subtypes were removed from the current version of the DSM (DSM-5, released in 2013), as it was determined that they were not helpful when treating the disorder.

2020 has been a big one for the label so far and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. After some stellar releases on both vinyl and digital this year, newcomer Herbert Vincent steps up and continues this trajectory with his 5 track EP “Genuine”.

In these dark times of Covid we still have our music.  We have the sounds to soothe us, distract and take our minds away from the chaos and uncertainty.   
We can't dance like we used to but we can hear and feel. Our release must be found in another way, we must look within. We find solace and grant ourselves space and time in the music. 
   
Sam McQueen (Indio co-producer with John Beltran, Indigo Aera, Delsin Records, Furthur Electronix) presents his debut album Dreams In Sepia for Mojuba sub label a.r.t.less and hits us with a real time soundscape of the moment, an epic-like document of these times. The rhythms are subtle, sometimes broken, the time structures often complex, this is not primarily dance floor orientated music. These sounds are way more cerebral, for the heads. They reflect perfectly the complexities of life we are experiencing in 2020. 

The edges are rounded with occasional strolling bass lines and comfy chords. Slabs of keys and spaced out female vocals like a psychedelic journey that scares you at first yet comforts you soon after. Sam McQueen’s mediatory sounds give an overwhelming sense of the moment. The music makes you take time out and listen. Its purposeful manner suggests there are more hours in the day, like time slowing down a pause, like the sun slithering slowly behind the horizon. These are sunset sounds for dark back-rooms. 

Daytime or night, it works. This is the soundtrack for the other room, the deeper sounds not designed to make you dance. This music doesn’t get in your face, it creeps up and smacks you on the ass. There are elements of early nineties UK Techno, a warmth and delicateness that pervades a distinct lack of four four dance floor in the beat structures, a softer tone throughout than the harder Detroit techno sounds of the same era but still nods and acknowledgements to the D in the layout and way the sounds present themselves. Think John Beltran, Symbols and Instruments, Black Dog or Kirk DeGiorgio, mid 90s Berlin sounds from Basic Channel / Rhythm & Sound, but in lockdown. Music for today's modern lacking landscape. The sounds often familiar, analogue, the drums, hi hats and snares, shimmer,  jazz style. They accentuate and push the rest of the elements around them.  
 In a bygone era this would be crudely classed as Chill Out music. In 2020 Covid era its about how it makes you feel as you relax and really listen to it. It is about emotion and empathy, a oneness, a new unknown and a deeper train of thought for the listener. Much like 2020, Sam McQueen lays the pieces round the edge of the jigsaw and lets you fill in the rest.

As we should've been celebrating our 11th birthday right now we have a gift for you all! We're very happy to be able to release a cut from Voigt.Mas's set from our massive 10th Birthday. The boys absolutely rocked it that night alongside the rest of the lineup and we can now all relive just a part of that madness! An honest account of a hazy, amazing night. For those that weren't there, whilst the recording cannot capture the full magic of the night and that set, it's very safe to say that room went off! Enjoy!

Half Baked Podcast 011 - VOIGT.MAS (Recorded live at Half Baked's 10th Birthday)

John Dimas is a truly versatile artist.

Influenced by the underground clubs of Thessaloniki, where he started DJing as a teenager after moving from Albania, it was only a matter of a few natural steps, guided by his unique way of mixing different musical influences to be playing for big, music savvy crowds inside hotspots like DC10, Amnesia, Watergate, Rex Club and Fabric.

Dimas has established himself as a highly respected selector and producer known for his deep knowledge of music. His sets always include obscure cuts that even the most avid music fans have yet to discover. “I like the art of telling a story, and giving lots of different dynamics to keep things interesting,” he says. “I don’t like to be predictable with the records I play and love to surprise the crowd.”

On a release front, he’s maintained a steady output since his 2010 debut, pushing a futuristic fusion of techno and house that is clever, energetic and infectious. Based in Berlin since 2012, his eclectic taste in music is evident when we look at his productions released on established labels such as DJ Hell’s International Deejay Gigolo, Raresh’s Metereze and most recently on Francesco Del Garda’s Timeless imprint. Dimas also runs Elephant Moon, a record label with which he aims to support new talent. The label does not accept demos, instead Dimas searches for young, emerging artists himself and mentors them throughout the process. Here he also released his 14-track LP “One Against Time” in 2018, a well executed and varied album showcasing his full artistic range.

In 2020, he launched a second imprint SYNQ as well as Intermission Records with Voigtmann to release their debut album “Internal Transmission” for their collaboration VOIGT.MAS. 2020 also saw the revival of Dimas’ other pseudonym, Secret Universe, a cross-genre electronica project formed in 2016 for the release of his first album, an ambient expedition also titled Secret Universe.
