Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Texas, formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson on drums.

Mark and DJ's roots are in R&B, Hip Hop and Gospel having played within the same gospel band for years. Both professional musicians, Mark began teaching Laura how to play bass in the summer of 2009. As such, Laura quickly developed a huge passion for the instrument and the aesthetic it brought to music she loved. Having worked studiously on developing her skills, both Mark and Laura were invited to tour with Ninja Tune's YPPAH supporting Bonobo across his 2010 American tour. 

The tour galvanised the two of them to start making music together more seriously, sowing the first seeds of Khruangbin. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - Khruangbin literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - the two took a trip to a barn deep in the Texas countryside and jammed for the entire weekend, developing a sound which was steeped the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration. Khruangbin was formed, with D.J. the natural go to for drums.

Having kept in touch, Bonobo included Khruangbin's 'A Calf Born In Winter' on his 2013 'Late Night Tales' compilation. In addition to increasing the Stateside following the band has built, the release has helped Khruangbin in topping both the US & UK 'Last FM' fastest growing artists whilst 'A Calf Born In Winter' continues to be one of the most popular single downloads from the compilation. The band recently signed to LNT offshoot Night Time Stories, with an album planned in 2015.

this is one of the themes i have composed for " Roundtrip " , a film by  the Syrian director  Meyar Al-Roumi.
this piece was recorded between Beirut and Fraizer Park California .
I recorded Buzuk , guitalele , kalimba and melodica 
Miles Jay recorded Lyra , accordeon , contrebass and percussions.
This version is different from the one in the movie. I hope u ll have the chance to see it at the Dubai film festival , if it wins a prize it will hopefully be screened in some theatres around the world. ( finger crossed )

Freak Power was a band founded by Norman Cook (later to become known as Fatboy Slim), Ashley Slater (the trombonist with the anarchic British jazz big band Loose Tubes), and Jesse Graham aka the Bass Cadet. Their music was a mix of acid jazz with funk and soul, as well as trip-hop.

The Fried Funk Food E.P. is classic electronic meets dub in a way that has held it's timeless charm since 1994. Over the years I have come back to this simple 6 track EP and enjoyed it over and over again. Also worth noting is the album is produced by Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim, Feelgood Factor, The Mighty Dub Katz, Pizzaman, Sunny Side Up, Yum Yum Head Food) before he rose to stardom. Highly recommended.
