The 5th instalment of the Legacy series contains works which are not published and with the exception of Corona di Sonetti are unlikely to be performed. The solo piano piece Corona di Sonett was commissioned by Clare Hammond who premiered a substantial sequence of the sections at the Aldeburgh Festival in 2022 (a film of this can be seen on Clare's YouTube channel at:

La Vita Nuova is a work in 9 movements based on Dante's early work that charts the course of his relationship with Beatrice from their first meeting up to her death. Russian Jerusalem is an opera in 3 Acts based on the book by Elaine Feinstein, exploring the repressive and often brutal relationship between the Soviet state and its artists and writers. Broken Forms is an orchestral piece which is dedicated to the memory of my parents.

Act III of Russian Jerusalem: in Scene 1, Ilya Ehrenberg refuses to sign a letter demanding that all Jews are sent to Birobidzhan 'for their own protection', then hears the radio announce the death of Stalin; in Scene 2, Boris Pasternak is criticised by his friends for both the content and the foreign publication of Dr. Zhivago, but is then offered the Nobel Prize. Once he has accepted the award, he is expelled from the Writers Union and threatened with deportation and he is left regretting that he has betrayed himself in chasing worldly recognition; in Scene 3, Joseph Brodsky is tried for being 'a social parasite', serves 5 years of hard labour before emigrating to America. In the concluding Epilogue, Marina Tsvetaeva takes her leave from Elaine Feinstein and the whole cast assembles to ask that ' May the Lord in his long silence remember all of us'.

RUSSIAN JERUSALEM Act III

This is the first section of a piece for tenor and large ensemble, drawn from Dante's La Vita Nuova. In this passage, Dante recounts his first meeting with Beatrice and declares the beginning of a New Life.

In this second section from La Vita Nuova, Dante describes Beatrice's greeting as the height of bliss, and thinking of her while falling asleep, he experiences a marvelous vision.

In the 3rd section of La Vita Nuova, Dante sends a sonnet to his friends in which he describes a dream in which he had a vision of Love holding his beloved and feeding to her Dante's heart. He is disturbed by the dream and asks his friends for their interpretation of its meaning.

		That, writing back, each may expound its sense,
		Greetings in Love, who is their Lord, I offer.
		Already of those hours a third was over
		Wherein all stars display their radiance,

This Custom Shop SG came to me very cheap because the headstock was broken. I spent the last two weeks stripping it down and reparing it. Put it back together yeasterday and played some bottleneck on it. I put her through two delay units, tiddling the knobs as I played!

Twilight is that magical and mysterious time between Dusk and Dawn or Sunrise and Sunset. The number of daylight hours depends on the latitude and time of year. Each pole has continuous daylight near its summer solstice. 

Twilight is noted by painted skies in soft glows of red and blue hues. Photographers refer to twilight as the "golden hour" to take photos.  The mystique of twilight has been a source of inspiration for scientists, philosophers, writers, and artists of all types since the dawn of time!
