Running up an Avalanche (feat. Myka 9)

Treading water is a languid, loping Americana alt rock tune very much in the style of the War on Drugs and with melodic echoes of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game. The song builds up from a simple acoustic guitar progression and a subtle string arrangement, and then quickly builds momentum with an urgent guitar riff and atmospheric overlays/ overdubs. 

As the song progresses, the listener has the sensation of being trapped underwater with the ocean seeping into ones’ body (a sensation enhanced by the gentle but urgent vocal tones of “I can feel it seeping through my brain”).

Treading water is a song of narrative and storytelling and explores the themes of being ‘stuck’ (“pressure’s building to a crescendo. I can feel myself going insane”). The chorus encapsulates the tension at the heart of the song “spend a lifetime treading water... trying to gently float to shore. do what you gotta. Do what you outta”.

Aiko Nova finally drops her first Christmas album, and it hits like a late-night walk through December with the whole world lit up around you. Midnight Christmas blends her moody electronic style with that familiar holiday spark, giving you a mix that feels fresh without losing the comfort you want this time of year.
She brings her own stories into it—tracks like “Midnight Christmas Light” and “One More Christmas Morning” feel like moments you’ve lived before but never heard put into music quite like this. Then you’ve got the fun stuff: “Just One Present,” “No Coal This Year, Please!” and “ELMO SAVES CHRISTMAS” push straight into that kid-energy zone, the kind of songs you end up humming without even realizing it.
Her take on the classics keeps the soul of each one, but the production gives them a cooler edge. “The First Noel,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” and “Drummer Boy” sound bigger, more cinematic, almost like they were meant to live in her world all along. Even the French carol—“Un flambeau, Jeannette, Isabelle”—lands with a surprising amount of heat.

This is us, Thinking about! We’re a pop-rock group led by John Mc Ferfive and Mic Fuzzup!
