Once in a very great while, I dream songs.  I typically think they're not too bad, but just as typically, forget to write them down never to be heard from again.  This is one I wrote down.

The song is upbeat, not-so-happy song.  This will put it in the same category as "Take Me in Your Arms" by the Doobie Brothers (same category, not the same talent level) and my own "Thinkin' 'bout YOU".

Between basic, tech school and her finishing her degree in college, I hadn't seen my then-fiancee for several months.  When I played this for her, she seemed to like it (I was amply rewarded).  :)

This song is remembering the preparations Jody and I made in 1982 for our wedding the following spring.  

And then about when she left.  

It's always a little hard for me to play, emotionally, but it's 100% accurate which is probably why I sometimes have to stop in the middle of the song for a couple of seconds.  I call it a "kick in the gut" song, but writing it proved helpful, therapy-wise.

This is a new version.  The first version had no drum or bass and sounded very classical - as in Beethoven and Mozart, not the Stones - with lots of oboe and flute.

This version still features the flute and definitely has drums and bass - it's as close as I get to a "power ballad".  The old oboe lick is now played on my 12-string; and it still has that classical feel to it.

BACKSTORY:  If you're a fan of the Doobie Brothers,  you might notice the similarity of THIS song and the Doobie's "Take Me in Your Arms" - not in the sound (I've occasionally been told I sound like a couple of famous musicians/bands, but never the Doobies).  The similarity is in the subject combined with tempo.

"Take Me in Your Arms" is a very upbeat song but the subject is far from happy.  It's about seeing someone for the last time.  

This is, more or less, my "Take Me In Your Arms".  

The song combines two events in my life:  Watching my wife's plane take off in Frankfurt, Germany to bring her home to Michigan for her brother's wedding; and the day, five months later, I got her letter telling me we were getting a divorce.  So in real life, her getting on a plane happened before I knew she was leaving me.  The song is the opposite. 

So...  Tempo = Upbeat.  Subject, not so much.

NOTE ABOUT NOTHING IMPORTANT:  I've caught myself singing along with this song in my truck and sometimes, during the Chorus where the lyrics are:

"I'm sitting in the darkness with the radio on..."

I sometimes catch myself singing something that relates to no part of my life whatsoever - but it DOES fit:

"I'm sitting in Caracas with the radio on..."

I don't know why.  I've never been to Caracas; I don't plan on ever going to Caracas; and I have NO IDEA why the city of Caracas popped into my mind in the first place.

I guess the mind is the SECOND thing to go - at least in MY world.  :)
