The Story of Sapali

Hidden Pages is a story of love, liberation, and cultural pride. Sapali, a young bright woman, was unexpectedly captured from her homeland in West Africa and brought overseas to work on a slave plantation in the Dutch Guyanas. We take you through Sapali’s thoughts and emotions while she experiences extreme difficulties endured at such a young age. Ripped away from her culture and everyone she knew, Sapali takes a great chance to free herself and others from the cruelties of slavery. She shows a high level of bravery, vision and strategic insight to invoke a plan which impacts generations to come. Sapali’s unwavering determination and resourcefulness lead her to take back her roots and triumph. 


About the Authors
Susi and Simba Mosis are the dynamic duo and twins behind the Sisa Events Foundation, an organization devoted to promoting Maroon culture and are custodians of ancient traditions. Susi holds a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management from Inholland University of Applied Sciences, while Simba completed a Bachelor's degree in Public Administration From Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. With a shared passion for heritage, Susi and Simba provide courses on oral history related to the rise of Maroon societies in Suriname, South America. They are internationally recognized as experts in traditional and authentic Maroon music styles, songs, and oral history, with extensive knowledge of the cultural and historical significance of these art forms. Their aim is to promote and preserve Maroon culture for future generations ensuring that the unique cultural heritage of the Maroon people is never lost.
