The thing I love most about Burning Man is no matter how much you think you've prepared, you still never really know what to expect. The uncertainty, the excitement, the apprehension, and sometimes even the fear of what's just around the corner is what keeps so many of us coming back every year with a renewed childlike wonder - a feeling that seems to slip away as we get older. Sometimes everything goes right, and sometimes things just go wrong. 2014 was a mixed bag for me with some high highs (spending time with amazing people, getting to DJ in the best place in the world, seeing some incredible forms of expression) and low lows (namely falling hard on my back off of a see-saw putting me in constant pain for the entire week - it even hurt to laugh!)...but at the end of the day, I got exactly what I bargained for and couldn't ask for anything more: I experienced the unexpected.

In contrast to the previous two years on the bus, this year I played first on Friday night and took a little sonic stroll around different sounds and moods to open the night before Bedouin beautifully escalated the night into proper party mode...Pardon any sloppy mixing, we can just blame that on my aching back :)

Thanks to everyone who was there early in the night to catch my set, and thanks to everyone listening at home, Robot Heart, and Dr Burridge for the continued support over the years...Having the opportunity to do what I do is such a great gift from all of you.

Back again to leisurely rock your boomboxes with My Definition of Chill Vol. 3. I've been overjoyed with the reaction I've received from the first two installments.  What began as a mix I was initially going to keep to myself ended up becoming my most listened to mix I've released. For volume 3 my life in San Francisco was a big inspiration for the songs that made it in. A departure in style from both volumes 1 and 2. I'm really happy to share these 22 songs with you that I've been listening to for the last 6 months I've been putting this together. Lots of cool stuff I've run across with vocals from Bob Marley, Al Green and Paul McCartney, a classic from DJ Shadow remixed in elegant style, old school chill classics with Orbital and Nightmares on Wax (I had to include them at some point) and some nods to particular friends with a few of the songs. After two years, too many tracks compiled, and too much deliberation, here is ‘Blooming Wizardly Babies’.  Originally conceptualized around playing at Blooming Heart and wanting to make up a mix for all the lovely little ones being born to our family of friends the past few years, this is what ended up becoming a little labor of love.  Due to the year and a half or so spent with this, gaps of time in which I worked on the mix happened, and therefore it seems to be in waves of movements.  Smoke a fat one, crack a pint of something tasty, sit back, turn the volume up to a polite decibel level, and bask in the sounds of some incredible producers!  Injoy.

John Dill is a seasoned DJ who has held residencies at legendary house havens for more than two decades. He is widely acclaimed for his dynamic and eclectic sets, as well as his exceptional talent in understanding the audience and selecting the perfect track from his extensive collection of tunes. Raised in Puerto Rico and now residing in New York, Dill has been a longtime burner and traveler, leading to a diverse range of cultural influences that have helped shape his musical style. In addition to his passion for music, Dill is also a skilled graphic designer, photographer, and illustrator, making him a multifaceted and innovative artist.

Burning Man (2017) I played an epic sunrise set with Swamy on top of the bus. It was magic and the perfect ending to my old ways of playing. I'm still searching for a new way to express music. Stay tuned!

After 20 years of music selecting I am on the bench from playing gigs. I am giving my ears a bit of time to hopefully settle down. I developed screaming tinnitus two years ago (winter of 2016) and have played less than a handful of sets since. The recovery from a set is about two months and while I'm playing the best way to describe the feeling is "sound penetrates my ears like a probing alien." - Me - (2016)

John Dill is an internationally renowned DJ who began his career with residencies at legendary house havens like Le Souk Sunday Sessions and Sullivan Room. He immediately emerged as one of the most beloved personas in NYC nightlife and has been on an upward trajectory ever since. He fine tuned his signature sound in Ibiza back in 2000 and quickly gained a cult like following in underground venues throughout North America, the Caribbean and Asia.  

Known for his magical ability to read the crowd and select the perfect track from his eclectic record collection, John Dill’s sound is unmistakable. Whether one of his deep, soulful gems dropped into a party or a mind-bending surprise at one of his acclaimed marathon sets at Burning Man, the sound of Dill on the decks makes any venue a destination.  

A long time resident at Robot Heart, Dill has shared the decks with luminaries like Lee Burridge, NU, Marques Wyatt, Mark Farina, Derrick Carter, Tom Middleton and Oceanus Orientalis to name a few.  

In recent years, Dill has expanded beyond the underground house music scene to include more prominent venues with broader appeal. He’s a regular fixture on Richard Branson’s Necker Island thanks to Mai Tai, where he once had Sir Richard dancing on a couch. He's also a favorite on the festival circuit where he inspires love from audiences at Desert Hearts, Wonderfruit and the more cutting edge crowd at Further Future.
