This piece strictly adheres to the form of classic rags, though interludes of free improvisation arise. Scott Joplin himself, bless his heart, often admonished that ragtime is never to be played too fast. Thanks to the Mendocino Music Festival for letting me perform this piece in its 2011 Village Concert series, as well as in 2009.

12 Years Later / Part 06 / Another Planet (A New Home) (Live Set)

A collaboration with a music friend Encym (Roland)  Roland is one of the very few music friends I have had the pleasure of meeting face to face  (at a Tuesday Post gig hosted by the wonderful Georgina Brett). He is leaving London to return to his home city of Munich and the track is developed from some excellent samples that he sent me. These have been  radically developed/played in the app SpaceCraft and using an app version of a  reverb unit - RX950 (I used the physical version of this  on one my first ever tunes about 30 years ago). darren harper's latest work is a joyous collage for all seasons; a delicate record that soothes and refreshes the spirit.

kaleidoscopic chimes and playful bells tumble against each other. twinkling notes drift down in little flurries, then melt away as sunlit chords push aside the clouds.

low, thrumming bokeh echoes bring distant mountaintops intimately close, then curve down into hushed forest floors, winds whispering through leaves overhead. tiny layers of loops and quiet delays, jumbled melodies, sparse crackling branches, and somber swells invite contemplation of these fragile spaces.

each moment is cherished, each song reveals new life: ephemeral, yet enduring. the ice breaks, slowly gliding away as the river shakes off its long slumber.

never obscuring, always revealing; these intertwining paths abound with the hopeful promise that spring is coming.

Zen 禅　is a Japanese Spirit. 
I go to a temple in the early morning of the weekend. 
Then, I practice the meditation in Zen Buddhism for about 3 hours. 
The heart becomes quiet, gradually like the water surface which is not choppy, but still. 
All environmental sound and non-sound, begin to have a meaning to me . 
Soon the sound begins to shine.

From Chicago, lifetime striving to play jazz piano, involved in electronic music since getting ARP 2600 in 70's. More recently also drawn to ambient music. Lucky to be on the northern California coast playing steady piano gigs and now making soundscapes of this time and place.

MATJAMI: Acoustic-electronic soundscapes, deep beats, slow trance, empty space: meditation by listening and playing. 
Tip: Use good speakers or headphones to enjoy the rich, deep sounds and binaural recordings.

We three at MATJAMI (Marcel Bode, Tjalling de Leeuw, Mike de Leeuw) develop our sounds and grooves as we interact live, using our bronze, wooden and stringed instruments, (Balinese gamelan & gongs, bowls, Tibetan horns, Chinese guxing & gongs, Javanese kendang drums, timpani, beer bottles) with Native electronics, samples and live loops. The quality and the texture of our sounds are at least as important as the composition. 
We play our sessions 'on the fly', where one of us starts and the rest comes in at leisure... All you hear here was recorded live, with only some simple stereo and eq mixing afterwards.
We love to perform in open areas, theaters, level stage, and spaces with a special feel to them; a small audience is just as nice.
Recently we started collaborating with other audio-artists like VictorYibril, Fintan O'Brien and Phlip Smith (G.A.), Miraela, and Augenmerk, combining their very different music styles, field recordings and soundscapes with our beats and sounds.
