Originally did not have this reverse pre-intro, but I super dig the way it plays with the listener before the piano and drums come in.

The guitar hitting right here is a nice changeup that comes in and out the rest of the song -- which is a four chord loop the whole time.

The subtle additions to the percussion towards the middle and end of the song help bring the ear some extra lovin.

Reading Stuff

Occasionally music has the ability to stop you right in your tracks, whatever your surroundings and take a deep breath to absorb everything it has to offer. Bloom is a beautiful, ambient release that holds this quality. The result of two highly skilled artists coming together, this 5 track escapade sets the scene for Fall, think rain tapping on the window, chilling on a cozy sofa as the temperature begins to drop outside and the colorful Autumn revealing itself day by day.

This song was recorded while thinking about a relationship that never had the chance to become real. 
There is no sadness, nor regrets, but a feeling of wanting to forget the past and just look forward. We do not have time to waste on our past.

I’m happy to share “Journeys” with the world. This song is beautiful and happy. But maybe a bit sad. It’s a bit methodical. But a easy and simple too. Like much music, it brings peacefulness. You may even be hearing it in an upcoming feature film :)

Journeys (Demo - Peaceful Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Strings)

When I first wrote the piano to this, I imagined it would be the closer to an album, hence the name. Call it a working title that stuck.

Originally it was solo piano, but after hearing a piano ballad from Lights & Motion that included a strings section before going back to solo piano, I was inspired to do the same.

Challenged myself as well to get a full arrangement on the strings as well. I believe there ended up being 6 total parts - 2 on basses, 2 cello, and 2 violin.

The piano, like my last two tracks, is a wonderful 7'5" Bechstein that I was so happy to record.

Closer

Closer (Demo - Ambient Piano, Soothing Orchestral Strings)

I did not have a final name for this song until I uploaded to SoundCloud. Decided to take a final listen and ask myself what I was feeling, what's the emotion? What's the one word? "Rise" came to me in the moment and I stuck with it.

This song was heavily heavily influenced by an instrumentalist named Tracey Chattaway, and from my last few months of releasing songs, feel as it is the most full and complete from a production standpoint.

Love of course bringing in ambient and reverse elements to compliment (or contrast) with the Bechstein grand piano. First of the 4 songs to include percussion. Had lots of fun working with the MPC and then tweaking virtual drum sounds in Cubase.

It wasn't until I was about ready to mix this song when I decided to give a bit of electric guitar a try. Cannot imagine the song without it now -- completely drives the emotive dynamics for me. Trusty Mexican Strat of course :)

I hope you think of your loved ones while listening to this song. It's a beautiful backdrop and soundtrack to your thoughts of those most important in your lives.

This song was untitled until after I decided to release it for my November 2019 release. I had the piano stem from a session in June (or July?), which was recorded while listening to some ambient pads and reverse tones.

There was no piano part prepared or rehearsed going when the record button was pressed. Somehow, an improvised take bounced so delicately in and out of the pads and synths. A simple repeating melody, and no real structure or chord progression. Just enjoying playing the piano in the moment.

So why is it the song called "Loved Ones"? Well, at the time of writing this description, we are one week away from Thanksgiving and the official start of the holiday season. In the simplest form, in the shortest amount of words, the holiday season is about loved ones in our lives.
