Matt Kinney was born in Boston and now resides in Southern Connecticut. Always a creative person by nature, Matt fell in love with music at an early age and knew it was going to be one of the driving forces of his life. His first DJ experiences came in his early teens when his uncle Glenn, an aspiring professional DJ, showed him the basics and had him help out at a few gigs. Thus the seed was planted.

In the early 90s, Matt discovered electronic music and became involved with New England’s club and rave scene. Seeing talented Boston DJs such as Fran, Bruno and others perform inspired him and made him realize that the true potential of two turntables and a mixer went far beyond just blending tracks. By the time he moved to the Tri-State Area in the late 90s, Matt knew that the music of his soul was house music. Influenced by such artists such as Masters at Work, Fela Kuti, Johnny Fiasco, JT Donaldson, Grant Nelson, and the soulful, percussive sounds of Latin/Brazilian and African music, he quickly amassed a record collection and honed his skills on the decks.

In 2001, Matt was offered a Friday night residency in New Haven, CT at a new club called Funktion. For over two years, he held his residency at Funktion and helped turn it into a weekly destination for CT's house heads and one of Funktion’s most successful weekly events.

After Funktion closed its doors, Matt went on to play at many other venues throughout the Northeast US. In the early 2000s, he joined forces with Marcin Makulski’s Family Sessions, and held residences at such venues as Agos, Z Cafe, Taboo, Temple Bar, Dragonfly, and Ocean Drive among others. Along with Silent Sounds, Family Sessions and DJ Jus-Ed, Matt co-hosted and played at the sold-out Groovin' on the Sound boat parties, which are still talked about today by those who were in attendance.

Matt later joined Swing Kids head honcho and Relax Sundays founder Rob "Bamboo" Cifre as co-resident DJ at Relax Sundays in Stamford, CT and the at the Pool BBQ series alongside legendary guest DJs such as Frankie Bones, Nigel Richards, Scott Richmond, David Hollands and more.    

These days Matt spends more time focused on being a dad than playing out, but you can still see him behind the decks in the Northeast area with some fresh tunes from time to time.
